Pros

Training was enjoyable, my coworkers were very friendly, pay was fair, benefits were good

Cons

My experience working at Paychex was horrifying. The training seems good, but once you’ve ‘graduated’ you are immediately thrown into a situation where you’ve been set up for failure. The supervisors are not helpful at all and very unsupportive. They micromanage your impossible to manage call volume. Expect to have back to back calls even in the “slow” queues, get yelled at by the most insanely rude customers, and have no reliable resources. Paychex managers always say that your voice matters and that you deserve to be heard, but when you speak up about the issues that arise, nothing is ever done about it and my supervisor always just said that she if she was able to manage that we are expected to do the same, and that wholistic handling is expected on all calls without providing guidance whatsoever. The metric system they have to keep track of how we’re doing unless you’re a robot, another way to set us up for failure. Leaving this job was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself with the amount of stress and energy it’s taken from me. It’s not worth the pay or your time, please do yourself the favor and find something else for your sake. High turnover rate Toxic work environment

Pros

Training - 10 Weeks long while building your pipeline (even though it is not effective in the sense of what’s being taught, I had to come up with a pro and saw this silver lining due to it not being as toxic as it is after the 10 weeks)

Cons

Fear based culture: leadership is always threatening with “improvement plans” if goal isn’t obtained right after training. Even if goals/metrics are met if it’s not in the categories they want you will still get threatened for not having XYZ type of business. Old Systems/lack of technology: system to onboard new clients is from 1998 Once you sell the product to onboard a client is a hoops and ladders game to get them within the system Unobtainable Goals: the territory I received/was in never made its revenue/units in two years with two different representative. Unethical Practices: told to lie to clients, for example, upgrading clients in which you tell them they are getting a better package for the same price…..for three months and their bill goes up after that. One client that was dropped on me was being overcharged and audited for a one person company for 5 years for no explanation/reasoning when Paychex was the one to oversee that from happening. Bait & Switch new employee onboarding: was told from three different people during interview process that during training there is a gurantee to make a certain amount as if you were making commission. 1 month into employment; manager says they changed it a while back and everyone misspoken (after you left your previous job)

Pros

Some regional management are wonderful human beings. I love helping small businesses and clients solve problems.

Cons

We aren’t being paid. This business uses an intentionally difficult to understand commission structure, that is impossible to audit or challenge in any meaningful way. New reps are sold into the organization with an expectation of unlimited earning potential and a myriad of compensation options, but those payments never arrive. Quotas go up, sometimes totally arbitrarily, and Comp structure changes each fiscal. They don’t bonus you on time, or accurately. Management will send you to HR for asking about where your money is, and HR will send you back to management. These issues were brought to regional management and upper level management over six months ago. We are still not being paid.
