Pros

I loved working with my students, and I had some amazing coworkers. They do try to keep class sizes smaller so that is a definite benefit. We usually get an extra break during the spring semester.

Cons

Very focused on test scores to the detriment of the students. Doesn't pay well if you're a teacher. Worse hours than the average school.

Pros

This school has a martial arts program and is highly focused on soccer and tennis. This school has a very tight nit team of teachers, who are very knowledgeable and highly competent. Many different schools around the state. This can be a good place to get experience teaching.

Cons

Students are not held accountable by upper Administration for misbehavior at some of the inner city schools. This leads to a chaotic classroom environment where the students get away with physical violence against other students, and against the teachers. The burden for the students misbehavior is laid almost completely on the teachers, which is why some of these schools have ridiculously high turn over rates among a lot of teachers. This means a lot of stress for the teacher, a loss of classroom instructional time missed as the students do their own thing more than listening to the classroom instructor. Pay is at the lowest threshold for teachers, the for profit status has more to do with the high level administration salaries. Because of the lack of support often when it comes to managing the behavior of disruptive and physically threatening students, your teacher reviews can be affected and not reflect your actual level of skill.
