Pros
The culture at Petex is a culture that empowers employees to develop their understanding and achieve excellence provided that they can demonstrate the attitude and humility to learn.
I have been working at Petex for 2 months now, and I can say that I have not added any revenue to the company in anyway, which is not typical for a small sized firm. Petex takes time to train their engineers, and ensure that they are capable of correctly consulting on queries received from clients. During the two months, engineers are expected to showcase their progression in understanding certain relevant concepts in engineering.
This period can be quite tough as we are encouraged to learn and put the effort into understanding rather than “spoon fed”. When mentors tell us we are wrong, it is not because “it’s their way or the highway” but because we are simply wrong. Physics is not subject to interpretation or something that is lost in translation, you either know it or don’t. I can say from experience that everyone in the office is approachable, and will drop whatever they are doing in order to have a conversation and help guide you, without spoon feeding, instead they challenge your thoughts and help you think for yourself. Take a second and think about the last time, a Chairman/CEO dropped what He/She was doing to explain high school physics to you, because this has happened to me on more than one occasion.
Given the work that this company does, it is crucial to understand underlying concepts in order to help support clients, this company would not survive if their workforce were only “good talkers.”
Cons
Nothing so far. All you need is the ability to admit you are wrong or that you don't know the answer.
