Pros

If you work in the Virginia Office - good location and parking. Some teams have good culture and nice people. If you are a ‘yes man’ and like to lay low below the radar and do what you’re told and just collect your pay you’ll probably do fine.

Cons

Senior management and Board turn a blind eye to team issues and bad management. Have consistently not addressed engagement issues around management communication, decision making and ineffective change management. If you have good ideas and like to have a say you will feel frustrated in this environment. It is overly hierarchical. They are not concerned with anything anyone has to say unless you are from senior management. Messaging is blatantly filtered or blocked and rarely gets a chance to get up. They are implementing psychological safety and speak up program, for staff, which is terrible because they need to stop management from implementing mechanisms to punish staff that ‘speak up’ about unfairness before they encourage people to speak. Difficult environment to collaborate or have difficult constructive conversations. Cultural problems need addressing. Fantastic CEO but he is externally focused and hasn’t addressed these key issues in his management team.

Dreadful Culture

Pros

Money. People stay because the unions have negotiated (code for the CE and Minister green lit) a non commercial enterprise agreement that guarantees 3% annual increase year on year.

Cons

Longevity is the indicator for promotion. You get long serving employees with little to no outside experience getting promoted. If they are challenged in anyway there’s a super aggressive bullying culture. People work 7.25 hours a day for above industry $$ and freak if you ask them to do anything that’s not on their job description. No such thing as team work - they’re only in it for themselves. Nasty. It’s now in a state of flux. Insecure CE was recently pushed out by a new board and Chair. People left don’t understand what’s happening. Hilarious.

Pros

Excellent offices and facilities, subsidised restaurant, good training opportunities. Terms and conditions OK and Union if you want it.

Cons

Many staff been there since birth so very blinkered views. Terrible "I'm better than you" because I'm in "Engineers Australia" type of snobbery around the place but many of them have been nowhere else and done nothing else (including the present CEO).
