Pros

Reasonable salary, small classroom, the hiring process was fast.

Cons

Inconsistent leadership and administration of managerial policies. A power struggle is observable among those who come from certain countries and are desperate to retain their job positions. Indeed they can deceive higher management to trust them. Some of them are so unethical but still manage to get away with it. Many of them are not even qualified to be there. You should expect a high degree of discomfort due to backstabbing and deceptions by these immediate managements (i.e. chair or assoc. chair) who are desperate to retain their positions. You should expect insecurity in the job in this respect as well. Evaluations and contract renewals are highly dependable on your favor to the immediate management, and student evaluations. Most of the time the high student evaluation score is too dependent on the degree of favor given to them in terms of grades and how much you can spoon-feed. It is not based on the ability to train the student to be an independent self-learner and to achieve their self-potentials by being independent, analytical and dynamics as the outcomes. Most of the time, if a good learning method (such as an independent learning) is imposed, the process can cause discomfort leading to low student evaluation. Being an expatriate makes it even harder to follow this teaching philosophy. You may end up being told what to do or soon enough, your contract will not be renewed. I voluntarily exit because I felt my immediate management pushed me out and the environment created given me so much pressure to stay and be positive.
