Pros

Good opportunity for “free” tickets to shows. Plenty of customer service so you gain a bond with repeat clientele

Cons

-Uncomfortable casual convos would take place in the box office that shouldn’t be taking place in a workplace. This lead to sexual harassment allegations being made by lower level employees against management and they’d be “investigated” by HR but nothing would come of it besides a gentle slap on the wrist. - Hours were all over the place and the schedule would come late so you would have unpredictability there. -Us box office employees were told they’d have an opportunity to come back after Covid lockdown but we were all ghosted and a brand new team were brought on instead, none of us were contacted to come back. No loyalty , I worked there for 4 years. - General miscommunication and disorganization between box office and other departments

Pros

I was hired as a response to the issues this organization has been having internally with race relations and discrimination.

Cons

They don’t actually care to fix, they just want to look like they’re fixing it so I really had nothing to do. Discrimination is evident in the lack of diversity among leadership and a push to put Black and disabled employees in low wage positions despite their experience or education. Minorities are expected to join a diversity group that is really just marketing tables at events that celebrate certain groups that they expect you to do without pay. Also the pay structure doesn’t allow overtime until after 42.5 hours which is not compliant. Departments that oversee costumes and stage design are also not being paid properly- they are salaried when they don’t qualify as such to avoid the cost of hourly work during peak seasons. Overall I wouldn’t recommend.

Pros

A sometime creative environment with the opportunity to work "in the arts."

Cons

Toxic workplace environment. Not nearly up-to-date with modern standards on workplace behavior re: relationships, harassment, diversity and race.
