Pros

Mid and lower level corporate teams try extremely hard to keep up with demands from the two owners. The property teams feel the pressure and try their best to keep up quality and service as well.

Cons

The two owners are impossibly demanding and create a tailspin throughout corporate and whenever on property. New top leadership has no interest in culture, and the teams are drained and quit consistently as there is no support, appreciation, or acknowledgement given by top leadership.

Pros

All properties are beautiful places to work. The friendships and relationships I created with the colleagues that I worked with on a daily basis.

Cons

The lack of support has led to the departure of numerous talented managers. Many depart within a short span after they come to realize the work environment is unsustainable. Unfortunately, Proper Hospitality has garnered a negative reputation in the LA and Austin areas and has to rely on out-of-state or international hires, who may be unaware of the workplace culture. At the property where I worked, the primary issue was the glaring absence of support from senior management. The leadership team often demonstrated rudeness and unprofessionalism, contributing to a high turnover rate. They also like to make it known that you are simply a number and fully replaceable at any time. A significant challenge is the corporate team's lack of knowledge regarding hospitality and hotel operations. While innovation in hospitality is commendable, it becomes problematic when policies are so substantially different from industry norms, jeopardizing the company's success. The last con was the pay. It is more on par with states that have a much lower cost of living. The salary was not enough to afford a 1-bedroom apartment at the manager level.

Pros

I honestly I love working here. Probably my best professional experience I have ever had. I have been thoroughly impressed by a company where I have seen on-property upper management repeatedly get pushed out VS letting a bad thing fester and degrade culture... especially in instances where it impacts employee retention and culture. Generally attracts amazing people at the leadership, management, and hourly levels.

Cons

Unfortunately, I anticipate leaving in coming years as different hotels of similar caliber begin opening in our market. When leaders can travel between hotels and stay for free on a regular basis, but employees making a fraction of that salary cannot get a room less than 250/night at any of our properties no matter the time of year, something is wrong.
