Too "good" to be true

Pros

Great coworkers and interesting work

Cons

I think the hardest part about working there was realizing the ethos and mindset of doing "good" in the world was more about chasing clout than actually caring about people. High staff turnover rate and as others have noted, poor management and culture from the top down.

Pros

There are fantastic people at Public. They are smart and capable and have interesting backgrounds. The mission was great and had a lot of potential.

Cons

Unfortunately, things were not organized or operated effectively to best use the great people in the company. A previous review wrote "growing pains" and I would agree. The culture was confusing. In some ways it was open and supporitve and in others political, cold, and cuthroat. I think this was a result of not having a formal training program for new hires, and not having upper management live and breath the values. When training sessions were scheduled, management was either unprepared, late, or cancelled the meeting 15 minutes before it was scheduled to begin. Hiring needed to be more careful and selective. Those from a previous agency background came in expecting a certain culture of a traditional agency, but that's not what Public Inc. was supposed to be. The company also needs a clearer value proposition itself. It was trying to be all things at all times. I think since I left it has focused a bit more. There is an improved tag line and website. Overall, there was a sense that you were replaceable and not that valued. There was no focus on career growth or personalized appropriate feedback. These are the reasons I left.

Growing Pains

Pros

Once had the potential to generate positive social impact through the creation of scalable programs and campaigns that: - Amplify brands - Raise money - Increase engagement - Advance social issues/causes through advocacy

Cons

Lacks a clear declaration of purpose, to work with the team to act with intention against those stated aims, and fails to create a culture of personal accountability and critical thinking.
