Energetic atmosphere but severe management issues

Pros

Young and energetic atmosphere Some basic but poorly executed training provided

Cons

Atmosphere of fear: you have one day notice period and receive constant threats of being laid off. Lot of stick and very few carrots: If you are sick, you must take three days of unpaid leave. Draconian production timing and you get fired if you can't hit them. Bad management: your team gets shouted at on most days for issues that originate from poor management Problems with staff retention and very high turnover: most people have only been working there for few months and even them seem to be constantly looking for another job Zero to all hours: technically zero guaranteed hours but must accept all shifts on any day or time Salary: the position is 'sold' with 8£ salary, but in actuality it is a minimum wage job with a 80p 'bonus' which doesn't happen in most weeks. All it takes is one of the team members to make one mistake and the whole shop loses their bonus. Naturally, this does not create a team atmosphere but one of great hostility.

Pros

In my shop - not working weekends, morning/afternoon hours Interesting people around

Cons

Very chaotic environment focused on pleasing one of two owners. He has no basic respect to people, gives that feeling of being owned by the company. Employees are being punished by instant dismissals or cancelling their holidays. There is no room for improvement, because one mistake costs you your job, even for very minor mistakes like lateness or looking at mobile phone. They also use a lot - 'not being right for the business', so their recruitment is clearly a failure. I haven't seen one person fired with notice to at least give them chance to find another job.

Policy of fear

Pros

Easy to get hired, they desperately take everybody

Cons

Senior management alongsinde one of two owners are absolute disgrace. Most employees live in constant fear of loosing that job with immediate effect. During my time I witnessed around 15 people fired for minor things like looking at the phone during their shift. For unsatisfactory results they may cancel your already booked holidays or decide to not pay for all hours worked. Breaking employment law and constant punishing employees makes Pure probably the worst company I've ever worked for. Treating employees behind closed doors instead of asking them how you may support them, dismissing people in front of others, so they 'learn the lesson', deducting off salaries company losses made due to simple human errors, fatigue or stress. Disgrace.
