Pros

Great products from the original founders of the company. New owners and leadership inherited an amazing invention.

Cons

The company is not innovating anymore. I suppose the plan for the current leadership is to ride the coattails of the original grid until the brand is boring and forgotten. If it weren't for the initial marketing push of those famous commercials, nobody would even know about Purple. The recently hired CEO and new CHRO cleaned house when they arrived by laying off 2/3rds or more of the company. Both on the production side and at the corporate level. The CHRO himself pushed out all corporate employees who'd been with the company longer than two years so he could bring in his own team of sycophantic loyalists. He is extremely dishonest, arrogant, and his cult-like following of minions worships the ground he walks on. He gets super grumpy if he is not idolized daily. The HR team quickly takes credit for what goes right and is quick to blame previous employees when things go wrong. There is a toxic culture on every team. Employees are not sure if they are going to have a job from month to month. There have been a few candidates that were even offered jobs, and after their offer was signed, HR would rescind it for no reason. Purple is a shell of its former self.

Pros

Although my experience with Purple was largely negative, their mattresses are a good product. In fact, the quality of the mattresses was the only positive aspect of my time at the company, and it was something that many of my former colleagues found solace in while enduring the onslaught of challenges of working at Purple.

Cons

I would strongly advise against considering this company for employment based on my personal experience and observations. The company has carried out mass layoffs twice in the past year, leaving many talented and dedicated employees without a job. Those who remained were forced to take on the roles of multiple people, leading to an unmanageable workload and high levels of stress. To make matters worse, the company entered into 'retention' agreements with some of the remaining employees, offering a large bonus payable at the end of a 12-month period, only to renege on the agreement and lay off many of those employees near the contracted period completion date. This is a clear breach of trust and an unfair treatment of the employees who had put in their best efforts to keep the company afloat. The new leadership has also pivoted the company brand and marketing to be similar to every other boring bed brand out there, despite still considering themselves as 'disruptors'. This shows a lack of originality and creativity in the company's vision and strategy. Additionally, the company's lack of stability is evident in the high turnover rate of three VPs of marketing in under two years, leaving doubts about its direction and overall performance. The HR department appears to be virtually absent, failing to address the appalling company culture that has caused morale to reach an all-time low over the past year. If the company somehow has enough money to be hiring right now, I would strongly advise against accepting an offer from them, unless you are in a dire situation and have no other choice. The company has a long way to go in terms of rebuilding trust, fostering a positive work culture, and demonstrating ethical behavior toward its employees.

Pros

There used to be amazing people here, it's the reason I joined the company. Every single one of them was worked to death and treated unfairly. I should have left when they did.

Cons

A completely unethical company in literally every sense. Senior team blames those actually doing the work for their own lack of decisiveness. They regularly screw over their employees with false promises. Performative town halls that do nothing to help the absolutely toxic culture that has arisen from lack of support. Laid off all of the wrong people on multiple occasions, meaning the remaining teams were not set up to succeed but still held to the same goals and metrics of teams triple the size. DO NOT WORK HERE. You will regret it every day of your life. I am a shell of myself after giving years to this brand, which took a toll on my mental and physical wellbeing. This company is going under not because of their product, but because of the vile way they choose to do business.
