Pros

Lab and general support teams are awesome!!! Lab facilities and Seminars are great. Excellent links to other research institutes. Some research teams are really helpful. Can get some really good short term experience, if your willing to be thrown in at the deep-end.

Cons

Top-down management structure. Attempting to be corporate, but not knowing how to do so! Experienced staff have left, replaced with vocal, opinionated new hires - expected to do-as-they-say. Very toxic and manipulative, will always shift blame to someone else. No opportunities for personal growth/development. No investment in training, yet you're expected to know/do everything asked of you. Non-existent informatics support, rely on the goodwill from other researchers and learn to support yourself/self-service! Terrible public transport and extortionate parking charges!! Little work-life balance (unless you're a student), WFH is discouraged.

Pros

the place has a lot of money and decent infrastructures

Cons

too many to list. the environment is toxic, managers are not able to guide the research and to have constructive discussions with Scientist. Quality of science sometimes is questionable is rather quick and dirty than proper and thorough. there is no salary growth for scientists even though they do all the work. they supervise students, write grants, do the science, write papers and get a third/fourth of the salary of PIs and managers. the institute puts a lot of energy in looking good, with social media, news, public events, but then is unable the deliver high impact science. this is proven by the fact that there have been almost no publications in top journals e.g. nature science cell in the last decade.
