Pros
*Benefits such as business class travel and a generous living allowance *Long vacations * faculty are generally supportive and there are opportunities for collaborative research. * international environment with international faculty * the UAE is a good place to live with plenty of leisure opportunities and outdoor sports and social clubs.
Cons
*students entering programs with little or no English making them impossible to teach * very strong obligation to carry out research but with no funding to do so * bullying and incompetent management *little opportunity for professional development or promotion within the institution * people are frequently let go without warning or explanation creating an environment of fear and paranoia. *a career dead end for faculty who want to develop their profile in order to return to professorial roles in western universities. * chaotic and inadequate systems for student enrolment, grading, appeals and data storage * the students are the very worst I have ever taught, lacking motivation, ability or ambition. They are entitled and deluded about their own abilities becoming intimidating and enraged when their grades are low as a result of their poor work ethic.
