Pros

Nothing, many talented artists come and go due to the poor working conditions

Cons

Long hours of unpaid work A project that seems like it will never be released A big lack of respect from the director

Pros

You learn a lot from extremely talented artists Hong Kong is a really cool place to explore/Super cheap Convenient living arrangements (if you're lucky) Different flats are held to a variety of standards dictated by the landlord and aren't regulated.

Cons

If you're first starting out into this field, I suggest to either start somewhere else or stay here for no longer than 6 months and leave (1 year MAX but I don't recommend it) You will not be respected or treated well here (unless you have extensive experience and knowledge but if you already do have knowledge then you should go elsewhere and recognize your worth) Abysmal monetary compensation considering how much you work No polished animatic. (I didn't know what movie I was working on until I pieced things together after month 3 or 4.) Lacks work-life balance (Expect to work 10 hr days and half day saturdays unless it's a public holiday which is far and in between) Lacks organization and consistency No initial training or introduction to new recruits Treated like dispensable and uses accusatory, degrading language to make you feel at fault and doubt your own capabilities Compared to artists with over 10+ years experience Unrealistic expectations/deadlines Inquires about inappropriate subject matter and presses until he gets a "acceptable" response Brings up personal life and happenings in an attempt to psychologically degrade and depreciate your work efforts and capabilities Manipulates people into doing things that are beyond the job description for the sake of a lower budget and then proceeds to become infuriated when it doesn't go his way. EXPECT being in his office for 1.5 hrs for virtually nothing. No over-time pay/No PTO He lies about having investors such as Disney to be interested or willing to invest when really his investors mainly comes from his father's successful camera business and wealthy associates (aka. Daddy's friends or potential illegal ventures. who knows? the whole business is pretty shady) Will make inappropriate comments about your body and inference interests on your physical appearance. Will try to turn people from your team against you in an attempt to shame you into working more/harder to gain approval Does not provide visa immediately so many people work here illegally until it's approved or have to travel to Macau in order to activate the visa.

Awful

Pros

Wonderful coworkers that are in the same boat as you and understand what's up, great city and the convenience of not having to worry about accomodation when you move there.

Cons

Absolutely awful and unprofessional work environment. I've witnessed coworkers getting yelled at to the point of tears, and have had private meetings discussing my bad performance when I was just following orders. Awfully long hours, and you work saturdays. Nothing ever gets done, the project has been in production for 8 years and it's still not finished, you get an "it'll be done in 3 months", basically every 3 months.
