I was offered this particular role towards the end of April 2026. My employment contract was signed by myself and Rossum's CEO in early May. I then resigned from my current role, which I had been in for five years.
Little did I know, but Rossum was undergoing an acquisition - which, obviously, the signatory on the contract knew about - by Coupa, which was announced in the days after my contract was counter-signed.
Now, clearly a 'Head of Brand' role is no longer relevant if the brand is about to be swallowed up by a larger one. Despite my best efforts to reach Rossum, I failed; about a week and a half went by before I received a call telling me, via a pre-written statement, that my upcoming employment had been terminated.
Now, with unemployment staring me squarely in the face - a terrifying prospect given I have three children to support and a mortgage to pay - surely Rossum would do the decent thing and pay me a month, maybe even two, to give me some time to look for a new role.
Well, no. They offered one week. I tried to negotiate, but it was a hard no.
This has been a genuinely horrific, life-changing experience for myself and my family - causing me no end of stress and, well, pure panic. I have suffered greatly, purely because of how Rossum has chosen to act.
In hindsight, I'm sure I'll be glad to have dodged a bullet. But to anyone thinking of joining Rossum (or, indeed, Coupa), I have one bit of advice: don't, you're better than that.
And Claude can do intelligent document processing anyway.
