Pros

Some very interesting books to work on. A commendable production team, an efficient marketing team and outstanding typesetters. Designers are average (read moody and lazy). The MD is decent, willing to give you growth opportunities if you have the potential.

Cons

Unbelievably tight deadlines. A blithering idiot for a managing editor--absolutely incapable and inefficient for the work her role demands and extremely old school. She can't edit, can't proofread, can't prepare schedules, does not understand budgets, is forgetful, inept and insensitive towards all. She thinks she can run things as smoothly as she runs the grapevine in the office. The entire workforce laughs at her behind her back. I repeat, the ENTIRE workforce. The commissioning editors have exceedingly poor language skills. Editorial division is in a mess right now.

The worst possible decision of my life

Pros

The only pro is that you get to work with some interesting or big authors.

Cons

The list is endless: unrealistic deadlines; tremendous pressure on the teams to deliver; non-existent work-life balance; employees are expected to cancel their approved leaves anytime there is a need which is frequent as there is massive mis-management; a managing editor who has zero knowledge of production and believes in spreading rumours and fanning gossips than doing her work; editorial is treated like dirt and nobody bothers to look into the concerns or the strains of the team; attitude issue of the employee almost being bought with the salary; incompassionate; people being humiliated in public meetings; no internal HR; no perks; unclear hierarchy.

Thank you for the review. The Pro you have mentioned is a "fact" and in itself a good enough reason to work with us :) We have been working on improving us. An HR module is in place, employee benefits are there, work procedures are defined, management is very much concerned about the well being of its employees. We are very sorry that you did not have a good experience with us.
