Pros

Being employed at SOCi will show you just how resilient you are - if you ever truly wanted to test your endurance and push your mental health to its limit, this is the place for you. Really, one thing SOCi does consistently well is finding top talent - you truly will be working with some of the most driven and wonderful people in the industry.

Cons

Work-life balance simply does not exist. If you are employed on the customer success side - know that you will be expected to be available via slack and zoom at all hours of the day, I often received slack messages before 5am (PST), well past 5pm and over the weekends. I was directed to work overtime on multiple occasions with no regard for what I might have planned over the weekend or in the evenings. (Also, with no additional compensation or thanks from leadership). SOCi salaries are some of the least competitive in the market, and their selling point to counteract this is their "culture" (which is nonexistent) and their benefits package - the highlight of which is their flexible PTO plan. Though they promote a flexible PTO plan and days off to protest, this is all smoke and mirrors. The example set by leadership is that to be successful and move forward, you take no days off and make yourself available 24/7. The level of burnout and exhaustion being felt from the top down (from the CCO on down to every level) is palpable and blatantly apparent on every internal call (of which there are MANY). Additionally, due to the incredibly high employee turnover rate, it's nearly impossible to take a vacation as there aren't enough employees to cover the workload if any given person is out for an extended period of time. Most employees end up working through their "vacations" , bereavement and sick days to ensure the SOCi world doesn't implode in their absence. One of the most toxic things I both witnessed and experienced in my time at SOCi was the psychological manipulation of employees by leadership. A favorite tactic was to strongly insinuate to/directly communicate to an employee that they were being considered for a promotion in an effort to get them to work far outside their job description and normal working hours; in most of these cases it was known and openly stated amongst leadership that the employee was in fact NOT being considered for a promotion at all but that it was helpful to let them think so. Finally, the other most alarming thing about SOCi is the complete lack of cohesive, effective and stream-lined internal processes. There is no project manager on staff, no project management software being utilized, and the entirety of the CS department is being run out of Google Sheets and Google Docs. It is just as chaotic as you can imagine.

Pros

It’s hard to really feel good about SOCi these days.

Cons

Yet another round of “organizational leveling”. Last one was in November. It’s taking a toll on morale and you are always wondering if you are next. Strange for a company that is growing. The HR department says reach out and voice your concerns - personally at SOCi, here on Glassdoor, round-table discussions, surveys. But in reality, people at SOCi are terrified of HR and no one in their right mind is going to give them honest feedback for the fear of retribution. But you can see some carefully crafted response written by Chat GPT here though. Let’s get this strait: 1) They keep laying people off with little or no remorse - so little humanity and it’s sad 2) They made our 401k worse 3) They messed with our health benefits 4) They reduced Maternity Leave 5) They own People and Culture while destroying it. Maybe they should let the people define the culture. Thats a thought But they say it’s all with employees best interest in mind. Which employees? Let’s be honest for once - The ones who are in charge and get big paychecks is really who they are talking about.

Hi, thank you for submitting your feedback about your experience at SOCi. We want to make it clear to you that our HR team welcomes all feedback, constructive and positive, with the utmost respect and priority to make changes that will better enable our employees. Over the last year, we have collected, analyzed, and taken action on employee feedback via our Gallup surveys - and are excited to continue launching programs for the business such as our new career development program and our reward and recognition program that will come in the next couple of months. We’d also like to reiterate, as we have in previous responses, that each Glassdoor review submitted is carefully reviewed by a small team of individuals who escalate concerns to the relevant leaders, and we craft a thorough response to each review without any assistance of AI. In terms of benefits, there have not been any negative changes to our 401k offering, as we have historically offered a discretionary match. The decision to evaluate the timing of the discretionary match is part of our commitment to align benefits with company performance and have the opportunity to potentially provide our employees with additional matches should company outcomes be favorable. For our health benefits, we continue to offer the best-in-class options while maintaining a flat medical benefits renewal, with SOCi absorbing the cost of all increases. Lastly, our maternity leave has not been reduced as we now offer 8 weeks fully paid to anyone that meets leave criteria (FMLA, state, and local jurisdiction laws will continue to be the guidance we follow) - this is benchmark for our size company and providing a common employee experience across all leave types was important as we made this decision. These changes were made with our employees’ best interests in mind, and we will continue to be transparent about the state of the business in our All-Hands meetings, monthly Town Halls, and leadership channels. We hope you will reach out to your HRBP to address your concerns, so we can support you in your role here at SOCi. Please feel free to email sociexperience@meetsoci.com if you have additional thoughts as well. Thank you for your dedication to SOCi for over three years!

Oh how I miss what SOCi was, instead of what it has become

Pros

SOCi really used to be a great place. In my role I used to interact often with members of the C-Suite, including the CEO. Afif is a smart man and as strategic-minded as they come. When the company was half the size it is now, the culture was strong, and an infectious enthusiasm just seemed to permeate throughout the organization. It felt like we all were in the battle conquer the market, with Afif leading the charge. And my word did I love supporting him and the leaders underneath him.

Cons

As the company grew, some newcomers in mid to upper-level leadership began to flex their personal agendas in ways that eroded what was great about SOCi initially. What started out as a collaborative, results focused approach suddenly turned into a nightmare of micromanagement and unrealistic expectations from “leaders” who wanted to set their own course and justify their existence. They weren’t part of that high output growth that is no longer occurring, so they are now apparently trying to add value in ways to pat themselves on their backs regardless. Would I work for SOCi again if offered? That’s a question I’ve struggled with. I would follow Afif and his executive team to the end of the earth and back if asked. Hell I'd carry their bags on the trip. But under no circumstances would I ever again work for the middle management team that was hired above me. Their agendas betrayed what was great about SOCi when I started. Simply devastating.

Thanks for sending in your feedback! We appreciate your kind words about Afif, and we agree with your positive sentiments. It’s important to us that SOCialites feel a sense of camaraderie and eagerness to conquer the industry. With Afif leading the charge, there is that strong enthusiasm and spirit that contributes to our company culture. The same can be said about the rest of the C-Suite and leadership at SOCi! We’re sad to hear that you do not feel the same regarding middle management, and how you felt during your time here. As a rapidly growing company within a fast-paced industry, we aim to bring in key hires to aid and sustain that growth. With that may come changes to strategy or some of the work we do, all for the shared goal of driving success. However, that doesn’t mean we will stop wanting to hear from employees like yourself about these elements - we continue to solicit this feedback through our twice-annual engagement survey, our employee focus groups that our Chief People Officer leads, and through our HR Business Partner team. As for our responses to reviews, we can assure you each review is read and responses are handwritten in order to address employee concerns in the review. While we do have a structure we follow to ensure fair and equitable responses, we want to make it clear that we intend to make sure employees, whether current or former, feel like they are being heard, rather than leaving them unanswered. We encourage you to reach out to sociexperience@meetsoci.com for any further feedback you have for us. Thank you for the contributions you made while you were at SOCi and we wish you all the best!
