Food is good. Values are rotten.

Pros

Coworkers are wonderful, interesting, hardworking people. Sometimes there’s free food. Dress code is casual.

Cons

The way SPUD treats its employees is completely out of keeping with its stated values. The CEO is a bully with mood swings—he vascilates between being absent, wandering around the office yelling (either in rage or excitement), and micromanaging things he knows nothing about. He gives unsolicited (and unwanted) shoulder rubs. He throws things. The food is good, but morale isn’t. It’s pretty much impossible to make meaningful change here. Depending on the department you work in, this may or may not impact your daily job. But it certainly makes it hard to do good work.

It's a place to start your career, not grow it.

Pros

The people are some of the best I've worked with. It's a highly collaborative, friendly atmosphere. I could honestly see myself being friends with my coworkers outside of work. Plus, dogs every Friday!

Cons

- The company has gone downhill over the past year. Many employees are leaving for greener pastures, and current employees are expected to cover the gaps without additional compensation. - The CEO routinely micromanages departments, overriding any expertise you might have. Most of his ideas are understood to be awful, but you have to go along with them. - The new office is out of the way for almost all knowledge workers. It's made commutes awful. There was a shuttle, but it's been axed. - There's a reason most employees are 20 somethings. They're here to get their feet wet, discover that they're being underpaid after a year, then leave. - No RSP match
