On its way to being a toxic nightmare fast

Pros

Typical startup perks: remote work flexibility, snacks, swag and usually a nice Christmas gift. The general team is very nice and gets along well. Generally a young, smart team. The Edmonton office is nice and centrally located, if you get to work in it.

Cons

Most of the C-Suite team have no clue what they’re doing. It’s a lot of their first time being the boss and it shows. A lot of people getting hired recently are overqualified and this causes a lot of clashing with the current leadership who think they know better. A lot of really talented people have left in the last 3-4 months - which shouldn’t that be a red flag when a company just scored Series A? Also expect to get low balled on your salary with the excuse that “it’s a startup”. Expect to work lots of overtime. Low vacation time given - regardless of where you’re located. Not great benefits. Says their ethical but is on track to be completely unethical.

Thank you for your input. It is important for us to hear this and absorb it. Samdesk indeed has many first time leaders and managers that will be reading this and actively looking at ways to improve and grow. Our shared goal here at samdesk is building a company that everyone, past and present, is proud to be part of. Based on this feedback, we’ve not achieved this for you, and for that we apologize. We do however take all feedback seriously, so we thank you for your input.

Pros

Remote work. The AI has potential to be worthwhile. Programmers and 'most' analysts are competent.

Cons

Pay is based on 'culture fit', not on experience or competency. This means that if you are a "yes man" and do everything you're told (including working jobs you shouldn't be working) Management will change your job description and title every other week. Management will also forget to include you or your team in emails regarding these changes, and will 'punish' you for not doing the jobs they didn't tell you to do. Your experience and background won't be appreciated. Management doesn't want input or feedback regardless of how impactful their poor decisions are to clients. The CEO is incredibly toxic and has "removed hierarchical structures" in the company in an effort to "increase collaboration and decrease ego", however, the most egotistical employees and managers are still taking a "my way or the high way" approach. Employees who have lied on their resumes and have no experience are getting promoted simply because they do whatever management tells them to do.

Thank you for sharing your experience about your time with us here at samdesk. Our goal is building a company that everyone, past and present, is proud to have been a part of. Based on this feedback, we’ve not achieved this for you, and for that we apologize. We do however take all feedback seriously, so we thank you for your input. Samdesk believes in creating an environment where people, regardless of background or traditional qualifications, have equal opportunity to thrive and make an impact. At times, that does mean that team members who might be perceived as unqualified by some are given new opportunities based on their historical contributions, self-awareness and appetite to learn new things.

Pros

An inclusive and collaborative culture. The team really takes pride and ownership over their work. It’s refreshing to work alongside a team that genuinely enjoys and believes in what we’re building. There's no shortage of talented and brilliant people to learn from (and they’ll happily teach you!) Leadership is inspiring, flexible and supportive.

Cons

The pace can be fast which isn’t everyone's preferred work environment.
