Inhumane & Comically Inept

Pros

Perhaps the only thing worthwhile about this site is the everyday writers who show up to publish content. Their passion is infectious, and their pitches are often excellent if only leadership was willing to listen.

Cons

The only advice I can give to anyone looking to work here is to run. SR is not only inhumane at the most unforgivable level to its workers, but it is comically inept. Leadership doesn't know what to do other than cannibalize itself, and directions are somehow both entirely obscured while being mandated. Truly, there are few newsrooms more dysfunctional than SR or any operated by its parent company. Avoid this publishing purgatory at all costs unless you are getting paid good money.

Pros

Flexible schedule, enjoyed connecting with team

Cons

Upper management does not care about you. Editors are not considered proper staff. No W2s for US employees. Upper management is disorganized and frequently demanding more work which ultimately sacrifices quality

Pros

Room for growth. Great team and culture. Flexible and understanding environment.

Cons

The pay could be higher and benefits should be offered to full time employees such as editors and staff writers.
