Pros

Nothing is amazing about this place.

Cons

The people who run this place don't treat you like a human being. They only care about CHEAP LABOUR and HARD WORKERS!! I would avoid working at Scribbler as the environment is toxic and will ruin your mental and emotional well being. There's no development, you wouldn't learn anything there other than being a slave! And the fun fact they already know this and will laugh in your face and replace you with a cheap worker. So don't be that cheap worker, know your worth and avoid this toxic company.

Don't expect support outside of London

Pros

It's possible to create a fun/welcoming working environment with a responsive team, despite lack of encouragement from the company

Cons

Do not expect support/guidance if out-with the vicinity of head office or London. Little to no interaction with management in terms of visits, especially from Regional Managers. Most visits are purely concerned with stock/VM of store rather than staff, customer interactions etc. Store to head office feedback is required regularly though is not read/understood and gets no response. It is purely a paper exercise to maintain an appearance of communication. Very little feedback from head office to store other than tasks/challenging deadlines. Again, out-with London expect very little support/guidance overall and little to no communication until sales become challenging. When challenges arise, expect very unfriendly and unsupportive behaviour from company management. Store/Head office relationship, the mentality of 'us vs them' is very challenging. Expectations and treatment of staff varies greatly depending on the individual. For sales staff the post-probation 'payrise' appears to be based purely on favouritism and is often not adjusted for almost a year or backdated when it does occur. Expectations of managers from RM's and higher management is again based on favouritism and obedient behaviour. Be expected to threaten staff with job loss if not meeting sales targets, and own job loss if you refuse to treat staff so unfairly.

If you like a work-life balance, don't apply

Pros

Slightly above the minimum wage

Cons

-Incredibly dull, shop often quiet for hours on end. -Needlessly long opening hours (where towards the end little money is made) cause unnecessary stress for staff when it comes to the end of a shift and there are drunkards outside. -Despite only being paid 45p over the minimum wage for a shop assistant role you are expected to carry out all the duties of a shift manager. -There is zero progression offered. -You are expected to cover shifts at very short notice and if you can't they make it very obvious how annoyed they are. -The company has no integrity. They regularly steal art and use it on their own brand cards. -If you don't fit in, you are ostracised. -You are expected to try to sell but get no commission. -Head office are not in touch with reality outside of their London bubble. 'Area managers' are actually just from London. The targets are set the same everywhere again because they are stuck in their London bubble. -Head office staff are highly unprofessional and rude. In short, for little pay the company wants you to work like you're being paid £30 an hour.
