Pros

A shiny new building pumped with white noise and desks as far as the eyes can see. Sure beats the office that sat conveniently around the bus line in downtown Seattle. Now you can get your exercise in and walk 1/2 a mile to catch your preferred transit. You also get an open floor plan where spying on one another is what senior management is all about! Want a short career....work here. There are always job openings...because so many people are quitting.

Cons

The worst Senior Executive Team ever, certain managers that report to them and massive morale issues. Top it off with extreme turnover and you have SMCU. If you want to work for an credit union where senior management thrives on making your life miserable...this is the place. Low staffing and long hours....and that's just the tip of the iceberg. They love to tell you that they respect and encourage an "open and honest" communication process but in reality, it's the complete opposite. This senior team couldn't accept constructive criticism if their lives depended on it. Mention on bad thing to them and you are now a target. They have no desire to work with the teams nor make any of the employees feel valued....unless, of course, you are a raging Seahawks fan and scream your support every time a certain senior executive asks for a cheer. Then you are in her good graces. Follow up with a couple of supportive comments on a survey and you are gold. The entire credit union was just brought in during the holiday for "empathy training." The only thing I can say is our management team lacks the capacity to even know what empathy means. Not only did they spend their day segregated from the rest of us, they huddled like grade school bullies and didn't talk to anyone. What a crock and total waste of time for us all. Our two top execs behave like children and have and use their power to ensure we are all working under threat of losing our jobs. As they sit in their front glass offices, enjoying their little lattes and private bathrooms, the rest of the staff work in constant fear that one bad look, one audible sigh, one upset face and we will land in the unemployment line. This place is cascading down a path and there is no coming back.

Pros

Used to be a great place to work, family like environment.

Cons

After stock market crash of 2008 and subsequent mismanagement of finances, Board hired consultant for change adaptation and proceeded to weed out long term staff by hiring new Senior staff member who was responsible for removing any and all mid managers with longevity and salaries who were replaced by new managers for less pay. Constant power trips by all Senior staff, who harassed staff with PIP's and wasted money on Service and Eval program where staff were required to be recorded and evaluated based on their performance at a one on one session with their direct report manager. Once had Service Star program that they paid outlandish money for which mislead staff with false performance input. Seniors and Managers would give out "Gold Star Stickers" that were supposedly good for hours or a day off, but never provided, especially if you held a position where chances of getting time off were minimized due to your roll. Seniors would run around exclaiming their great pride in giving staff their "Gold Stars." Ridiculous behavior by self proclaimed "well educated" lying scheming Senior staff. HR is very corrupt, makes staff fear for their jobs, on and on.

Deceptively toxic

Pros

Good health insurance if you don't have dependents

Cons

Unethical and absent leaders - CEO, COO, CFO never visited the branches in all two years I was there (and there are only 9 branches). Awful stewards of members' money with costly outsourced advertising agency and expensive, half-empty HQ. Execs and upper managers do not communicate long-term vision for (probably because they don't have one) and definitely don't want employee feedback about it. Also an incredibly immature tendency by management to talk poorly of past employees. Very deceptive environment, because those leaders sure can smooth talk potential hires, community "partners," and their own membership at annual meetings. I even closed my own accounts with them.
