Pros

• Remote work options available • Ability to have a flexible schedule, within reason (you'll still be expected to attend important meetings and meet deadlines, of course) • Incredibly friendly and inclusive work environment • Employees are passionate about what they do and always willing to help each other to accomplish goals • Full-time benefits are generous • Opportunities for team building to grow closer with your fellow coworkers • Opportunities to attend in-person events to help promote and grow the company (for both in-person and remote workers) • Be part of the growth of the indie games industry as Serenity Forge not only develops in-house games, but also publishes indie games by small dev teams to consoles and various platforms

Cons

• Due to the nature of the game industry, how busy you are will fluctuate throughout the year based not only on your role within the company but also on current and incoming contracts, events, and internal organization • You may be expected to work outside of your usual work hours when deadlines are tight

Forced Political Activism

Pros

You got to start somewhere.

Cons

To the public, this is a positive and upstanding business, but behind the studio doors it is a toxic abusive environment. There has been a long standing joke here that once the CEO punched one of his lead programmers in the face. We all laughed and thought it was just some friendly joke. But, come to find out, the CEO is a narcissistic manipulator with rage issues. Once in a while, you can hear him chewing someone's head off across the office even when the office doors are closed. You'll commonly hear racial slurs and inappropriate dialogue across the board which is the tone set by upper management. As a pastime management has gathered employees to make fun of applicants and their portfolios. I'm embarrassed to have ever worked there. It was indeed humiliating and degrading, not to mention the forced activism on our work. The art team was pressured to push androgyny and push back against male masculinity and female femininity despite directives from clients. Upper management seems more interested in their social political reputation outside the office than actually taking care of the heart of their operation, their team.

Pros

There are some truly amazing and talented people working here.

Cons

The company was plagued by petty infighting between internal factions, poor management decisions, and little regard for work life balance. While I worked there, employees were hired and fired (or quit) with such frequency that people didn't bother to learn each other's names. While I worked there, every team in the company was always in some kind of crisis that could have been avoided with better planning. The CEO is a poor leader that failed to address situations when he needed to and overreached when it wasn't warranted.
