Pros

Great pay and free healthcare.

Cons

VERY old equipment and maintenance that seems not to care either. I was told that If you pretripped your trailer and it was out of DOT inspection compliance that as long as you put it on the pretrip then Sharkey would pay your ticket! I have personally had to reject multiple trailers due to either the condition, DOT inspection out of date, or not even having a registration on the trailer. No retirement either. It’s like management figured out the best way to cut costs was to work drivers until they’re dead and there’s several elderly drivers way past 65 still driving there. Personally, I think that’s because there’s no where else to go since they probably have many DOT failures and no pension. Sad!

Thank you for sharing your perspective and for the time you spent with Sharkey Transportation. We take concerns related to equipment condition, maintenance practices, and safety compliance very seriously. Sharkey Transportation operates under federal and state regulations, and our equipment and operations are subject to routine inspections, documentation requirements, and oversight. Drivers are encouraged to report any equipment issues during pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and equipment that does not meet standards is addressed through established maintenance and compliance processes. We also want to clarify that drivers are not expected to operate unsafe or non-compliant equipment. Safety decisions, inspections, and responsibility are handled through defined procedures designed to protect drivers, the public, and the company. Sharkey Transportation has been in business since 1971, and longevity in this industry requires consistent compliance, accountability, and ongoing investment. Our workforce includes drivers at many stages of their careers, and all drivers are held to the same licensing, medical, and safety standards required to operate commercially. While experiences can vary, we continue to review equipment, processes, and communication with the goal of supporting safe, professional operations and the people who represent us on the road. We appreciate you taking the time to share your viewpoint and wish you the best moving forward. — Sharkey Transportation Team

Pros

Free insurance. That’s it. Nothing else good to say about them.

Cons

Poor equipment. Slow dispatching. No layover pay or detention pay.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for taking the time to leave a review. We want to acknowledge the benefit you highlighted, as it’s one of the areas we are most intentional about. Sharkey Transportation provides 100% premium-free medical, dental, and life insurance for drivers and their families, with no weekly paycheck deductions. Because we are self-insured, there are no network restrictions—drivers and their families can seek care where they choose. This benefit represents a significant investment we make to support our drivers both on and off the road. We also want to provide context around retention. While turnover is a challenge across the trucking industry, Sharkey’s driver turnover is remarkably low compared to industry averages, with drivers consistently averaging more than six years of longevity. We recognize the concerns you raised, and feedback like this reinforces why retention, communication, and continued investment remain important areas of focus for us. One of the most common reasons drivers choose to stay with Sharkey is knowing what to expect—clear policies, consistent operations, strong benefits, and the people they work with every day. We don’t take that responsibility lightly and continue working to improve where we can. We appreciate you sharing your perspective and wish you the best moving forward. — Sharkey Transportation Team

Drivers mean nothing to them

Pros

I really can't think of one

Cons

Constantly lied to. I get overweight ticket for $1,200 on a failed ratchet strap that the shipper placed there. Sharkey accidentally admits that they didn't even bother to see if I was at fault or not. I was going to get the blame anyway. If that wasn't bad enough, they forget to pay the ticket, so my license gets suspended. So, on top of the $1,200 fine, that we don't know weather I was at fault, or not, when we could've known. If safety would've done there job. With the suspension, u can add 3 days lost wages and a $53 reinstatement fee to it. They did a lot more dirty stuff to me in the 6yrs I was there.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and for the many years you spent with Sharkey Transportation. Situations involving citations, investigations, and licensing can be complex and often involve multiple parties. They require careful review, clear communication, and follow-through. While experiences can differ, we recognize the impact unresolved issues can have on a driver. Even after 50 years in business, we continue to review our procedures and accountability measures with the goal of strengthening support for the people who represent us on the road. Matters like these reinforce the importance of consistency, documentation, and responsiveness across all levels of the organization. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and wish you the best moving forward. — Sharkey Transportation Team
