Don't work here unless you are profoundly committed to helping underprivileged college students triumph.
Pros
Shaw has a very disadvantaged student population sorely needing inspirational teachers.
Cons
Prepare to be chronically underappreciated for what you do. You will teach 4-5 courses/term and still have the administration tell you at faculty meetings that you are "lazy." Students (and sometimes their parents) who don't deserve to pass will scream at you if you give them anywhere close to the grade they earned. You will receive emails at 10 AM saying that a report that would normally take days to prepare is due at noon. You will serve at the pleasure of the president, and may mid-semester receive a notice saying that your job has been terminated and you have until the end of the day to clean out your office, immediately losing access to your email account. All but those with the thickest skin and grittiest determination wither under these conditions.
