Pros

Ability to make great industry contacts Free beauty products Flexible hours (WFH Mondays, 11am-?? office hours) AMAZING, talented, witty, fun team (below MGMT level)

Cons

- You can feel a literal sigh of relief in the office when management leaves for the day. - Founder has established a set of "core values" which are often used to place blame for problems, but management is rarely held accountable for said values themselves. These values include “ownership”, “direct communication”, “problem solving”, etc. The CEO is usually the absolute last person in the office and the first to leave during the day. Management will ask to have a meeting about something, ask for a follow up email about said meeting, and will clearly not listen to or read and then ask questions about things that had been discussed in both. - I caught someone in upper management talking behind my back to another co-worker as I sat at their desk helping that particular co-worker learn a new tool. - Editors are clearly over-worked, I was often in the office with the newest member of the team past 7pm while her boss worked a 6 hour day. - Emphasis is heavy on quick fixes, very little patience is applied for long-term issues that need long term solutions. “Best Practices” are often not disregarded and even frowned upon– while I was working there, a few outside agencies declined to work directly with SheFinds due to the way business was being conducted. - Note: consider that the only positive reviews were written by CURRENT employees – admittedly they were ASKED to write positive write ups to counteract the negative reviews

Pros

- Exposure to media industry - Networking with other publications - Work from home on Mondays (but you basically work from home every day after you leave the office because workload is overbearing) - Free products

Cons

At first, my experience was great; I loved it! I didn't believe these reviews until the honeymoon stage ended and I saw the company for what it really was. - Management is hypocritical- they don't follow their own company values including honesty or direct communication. I left the office crying one day because management could not be straight with me regarding my future there. Very frustrating. - OVERWHELMING amount of work... management doesn't care if you're a full-time student even if you express your concerns. I had a set work schedule but I was expected to work outside of the office practically every day including weekends. - I don't think any of the staff are bad people but they are not courteous coworkers or qualified management. - Office is dead quiet and awkward set up where the CEO can look watch you over your shoulder. - You are your numbers, stats and paycheck. Management ONLY cares about costs and they are cheap. They use being a "small company" as an excuse but the CEO is obviously making a ton of money. They would rather fire and rehire dozens of employees instead of investing in the training of a current employee with so much potential. There's a reason why their full-time staff is so few but there are many interns (half the company is full-time staff and the other half is interns). - They treat interns like they have 10 years of experience and all the answers. It's good that interns are respected like full-time staff but management needs to remember that this is their LEARNING experience. Sometimes they need your help but that doesn't mean they are incapable of doing the job. - Interns are asked to take on practically impossible tasks because they do not have qualified experience. I was asked to take on a task that management couldn't even figure out. Basically, sets you up for failure. - By the way, most of these positive reviews are by current employees that management asked them to write. The staff is small, they know who wrote them. It was an awkward thing to ask and I didn't feel comfortable writing an honest review while I was still working there (hence why the 5 star reviews are oddly enthusiastic and sound fake). It's months later and I still feel uneasy. After I graduated, I didn't apply for any corporate jobs because I was terrified to feel like this again.

Good or bad, we very much appreciate all feedback. Although there are several inaccurate assumptions here about financial data, staff composition/turnover, and hiring practices; this is the reviewer's perception and it's important for us to respect and understand this point-of-view. We take our paid internship program very seriously as we want it to be a positive/productive experience for all. Understand that an internship at SheFinds is not for everyone. Often, this may be an individual's first exposure to a more structured work environment. Sometimes it may be different than expected. We get hundreds of resumes every year and do extensive screening/interviewing for the appropriate fit. The process of hiring, training, and coaching interns takes considerable time and effort. For this reason we never have more than 2-3 interns on staff at once (in 2018 we're cutting it to just 1-2). We have had periods of time where we had multiple interns and/or contractors overlap for a week or two- this may explain why the reviewer feels we many more interns than we really do. But the reality is that we have very few and will have even less in the future. During their very limited time with us, interns are given extensive training and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions. They attend our weekly staff meeting and are asked to share their challenges/accomplishments for the week. While we celebrate their successes we constructively encourage them to find creative solutions to their challenges. Many interns have thrived in this environment (in fact, several of our current employees were once interns) while some have been less successful. We always do our best to provide guidance and support and often help them beyond their time with us. Overall our company has extremely low turnover. The core team has been together for over five years (some have been here over 8 years) and others have typically stayed 2-3 years (above industry average). Over the last 18 months we have made only two staff changes. In fact, over the 12 year history of our company, we have averaged less than 2 staff changes per year. We have never had any layoffs and are very careful with who we hire. Our company is a busy place- we use many consultants, contractors, outside agencies, etc. But this should not be confused with staffing changes, rather this is how most online media companies conduct business. We are very transparent with our employees and keep them as updated as possible with regards to the company's finances. Considering we are fully independent (i.e., no outside investors) we have beautiful offices (brand new for 2018), flexible work hours, and competitive salaries. The owners of the company have continued to reinvest/upgrade the business rather than taking profits. This is why the core team continues to stay together- they believe in the business and are investing in their own future.

the WORST job of my life

Pros

um? I guess that you can work from home on Monday- but you will be working all weekend.

Cons

There is not enough time for me to write down everything that is wrong with this company. If the multiple lawsuits from disgruntled employees is not proof enough, I can confirm that this was the single worst place to ever expose yourself professionally. All of the good reviews are so clearly written by the current staff, worried that the CEO will cut them too if they don't comply. I have PTSD from this experience. The management disrespected and overworked their underpaid employees or UNPAID interns (illegal, by the way). If you have endured the pain of working there for over 3 years they might give you a "promotion" but DO NOT expect a raise. Greedy management makes for very little compensation in the long run. Honestly, don't apply.
