Pros

There are some wonderful humans at this company. Unfortunately most if not all of them get fired so don't get too attached!

Cons

Imagine coming in to a job every single day where you will be inevitably criticized for something, you will be surrounded by negativity, you will constantly be checking behind your back because you're always about to get stabbed in it, you will work for management that does not lift you up but instead berates you in front of everyone for things you feel are accomplishments. Imagine having zero training, multiple managers over an extremely short period of time, and absolutely no education or direction. Imagine coming into work every day and people being fired around you, out of the blue. Imagine never knowing when your day will come, never receiving any feedback or direction for improvement. One day you're just cut with no factual backed reason. This is the absolute worst company culture i've ever experienced. So where to truly begin? From the top down? The CEO micromanages the sales team to a point of exhaustion. He exhibits no boundaries and created an extremely toxic work environment for me personally. He exhibits erratic behaviors , such as making up new emotionally-charged rules on a whim on a daily basis. People use the excuse “this is a start-up” but in my personal opinion no amount of money will ever be able to fix the root of the issue at the company because it’s coming from the top down. Moving on down the totem pole... Here we will see what laziness truly means. The laziness that is being set as the standard at this level is inevitably reverberating throughout the company. This level is choosing to fire everyone and start fresh with all new employees, in a new state so that the company does not have to train any employees. PAUSE- THEY ARE LITERALLY FIRING EVERYONE AND TRICKING NEW PEOPLE TO COME TO THIS COMPANY SO THAT THEY WONT HAVE TO TRAIN OR EDUCATE ANYONE BECAUSE THEY ARE UNWILLING TO DEVELOP FROM WITHIN… okay just making sure that was clear… moving on… so essentially he is hiring new people to steal business that they were previously working with at other companies- CH Robinson, Uber Freight, Etc. (mind you, fully playing the good ol' boys game). Times up. Down another level- This doesn't exist because they have all quit. One by one, management has left (all we're awful management in their own way- hands down worst I've ever experienced in my life). Think something like 1 new manager every 3 months. So right now there is no management- instead of hiring a new person to manage they are just firing everyone because that seems easier... *insert emoji with monocle* And here we have arrived at the very bottom. Those who are working their tails off every single day- doing everything they can with zero support, zero direction, zero training, yet still kicking booty day in and day out. Yet inevitably they are all fired one by one with no real reasoning, no PIP, no warning, no nothing. The people here are actual angels- despite the negativity and job insecurity these people come in with the best attitudes, with smiles, and they come in as a TEAM every single day. They truly want each other to succeed and the support amongst them is incredible which is why it’s so sad that they are in such a horrible spot. This is by far the worst culture and worst company I have ever experienced. Rumors spread rampant by the gossipy employees, the employees live in a state of fear. They will promise things and they are all be lies. You will get hired for a job role such as “account executive” yet you will spend your days making cold calls and doing the job of an SDR or get hired for a role in management only to find out SIKE you’re actually going to do a completely different job. My best advice: DO NOT APPLY WITHIN, RUN!!

We continually adjust our direction up and to the right! We also understand this environment is not suited for everyone. There is learning and improvement along the journey for all. A sinking ship that isn't exactly sure of it's identity

Pros

- Unlimited Drinks and snacks. Lots of cheetos and topo chicos to hoard and make your day by day feel substantiated that you're in a startup environment that likes to stay modern. - You get a work laptop. This is great for when you want to watch TV and want to free up your phone to google random things on the couch. - It's on the top floor of a building so you get to look down at the people walking around carelessly with their AirPods. - The building has a Cava on the bottom and consistent hobos who come up with new approaches every day, just like budding sales reps.

Cons

So first and foremost, I appreciate everything for what Shipwell has done and provided for me and I've been with them since January. New opportunities but all in all, comparing what I went through with those of my peers in other startups/sales, there were a ton of glaring issues that you could easily find in multiple online "signs to stay away from a company" type help articles. Also, all of the reviews you see here that are precious and glorious "5-Stars" that are extremely cookie cutter. But I know you, wonderous job seeker who relies on cold hard truth from Glassdoor, I know what you need and know that I got you. Of course to stay partial I'll be sure to cover each con as well with why it's not necessarily a "bad thing" to give the other view. Let's begin. -- The company doesn't know what it's doing. ***It's a startup, one would argue that 100% of startup's do not know what they are doing*** Now the problem with this is that you typically have some type of road map or goal in sight, you go through changes for the sake of betterment and really building out the company. In this case, it's more of a change that is causing a profuse hemorrhage. Since this was already brought up in a "stellar review" about us being a software company with a brokerage, it's safe to really ask: are we a brokerage? Are we software? The company really does not know what it is even doing, like what is going on? How are you gonna not really keep us in the loop when so many of us are just mindless drones. Keep in mind that a majority of the company itself is one way but the CEOs are looking to head the other... so what happens to that other majority of us that come in early to rip phones and freight? Hmmmmmm..... that brings us to our next part. - The company isn't putting in place individuals that are capable of leading nor teaching people to the next level. ***It's just a hiring issue, they'll be able to go through trials and errors to find the right ones.*** Now why would a company that is so highly regarded have such a problem here? Because there is no real QA going on here. Who do you even have leading us? You have former higher ups from competitors that take care of our carrier team that could be in use at much greater roles at the company but you force them to just do meaningless tasks. I laughed a ton btw at one of the reviews here that said the whole trump supporter thing cause bro it makes sense when you meet and see how the dude looked at everyone. I used to watch the guy that is supposed to run our whole software sales corner joke around and sing and come in late and I'm like what does this guy really do? My point here is for either new college grads or veterans in the shipping/logistics industry, you want to work with a company that you think is gonna go far with competent individuals. It all really felt like some type of high school student council where no one really knows what to do but they know they have power and they share that power with other small minded people. You want to work with people who you think have your best interests in mind and believe in your future as well, but here, that ain't it chief. - One of the CEOs is constantly reeming people. ***Uhhh this is good for character development and growth. It shows a passionate CEO that is dedicated to his message and to take charge*** Ok so this might be the funniest con here and I'm sorry that I find it funny because it never happened to me, I just got to watch it from the middle of the floor. So like one of the CEOs is constantly like in a bro state of mind, which I mean is cool but also like... hello man we need you to be professional. So this guy used to always be yelling at different dudes, like our engineering guy who ended up quitting and the software corner cause thats where he used to sit around. But constantly you could hear him yell and talk to people in a condescending way it was nuts, like literally one of the top red flags about companies and CEOs you always see in those articles. You could tell though that it was so messed up because everyone would just be staring at whatever was goin on cause it was so loud. It's bad man. But hey, I'm not a CEO and just writing a glassdoor review right? --The perks aren't all that they seem. ***This is just a personal statement of yours, perks and benefits vary person to person*** So let's talk about this. Like any Austin startup, unlimited PTO is given but frown upon when taken. Obviously a power move but also a way to say "we don't have to pay you out for the PTO you haven't taken". Smart but obvious I guess. They don't want you to take vacations or time off because when you come back, you get bashed for it. HARD. Like, what do you know about my life or whats happening. A buddy of mine on the team came back from taking his mini PTO and wouldn't hear the end of it from anyone, like not even subtle jabs, just like legit you don't wanna work huh. WOW. Other things that they add to your "benefits" are just things you don't ever use but is just something that they can flaunt about giving you. -- No one is happy doing their job. ***This could be subjective, how do you really know if they are happy or not.*** It's about 100~ people at the company. We all talk and see and know what's going on. We have a small work space that we have easily outgrown and it's about 3 of us to a double monitor a table, we are squished like sardines. We have to come in at 7, fight for whatever parking is around and then leave late. Taking lunches are frowned upon and they expect you to constantly rip freight all day. "It's the job you signed up for" well let me know next time that this is a sweatshop that is doing badly. A lot of functions are outsourced so theres no real reason for people to think this is a pure Austin company. It's also a huge joke that we are on multiple Austin articles for "best place to work" or "huge culture". Like there is no possible way that any of those have any indication of life on the inside. That's about it. Hopefully this answered any and all of the qualms you might have had. Like I said before, it's been fun but it's not a place with the best future in mind. I want to solidify myself and root myself in a company that really looks into and believes in it's culture, not one that wants to emanate one.

Pros

Decent view of downtown Austin and some decent start up benefits like snacks, drinks, and food. Comp is reasonable and in line with industry benchmark.

Cons

This is the classic “Smoke and Mirror.” The real issue with this company is their identity. Is it a freight brokerage or is it a tms company? I was misled during the interview process thinking I came to sell SaaS but ended up being a freight broker. The extremely high turnover here isn't because of the “industry” people. Unrealistic expectations and goals set by an inexperienced CEO with no “real” knowledge of logistics or technology is the true root cause. The culture here is Fear and Micromanagement. If you don't agree, don't bother speaking up or addressing issues.
