We are truly saddened to learn as a current employee, you have such discontent with the direction of Smart Financial. With change, we understand we will have employees who struggle to find purpose in a new environment; however, our foundation is and will always be built around a culture of trust, loyalty, team work and accountability. Every member of our management team is passionate about the growth and success of our employees, and understand without our employee’s commitment to our vision, Smart Financial would not be successful. We encourage our employees to provide honest feedback to any member of management as this is the only way we will be able to grow as a family. We encourage you to speak with any member of management, including the CEO, about your concerns. Hopefully, this will give you clarity on the changes we have made and the importance of these changes for our future.

Pros

Bonuses, Decent pay, major holidays off, tickets to concerts at the smart Centre

Cons

Morale is low, mangers no longer care about employees, CEO is bringing the company down. The CLO Jeff Keene stays in his office and does not deliver on promises made to his staff. Always changing who you report to, Let’s people go or forces them into retirement so they can pay someone else less, Mangers do not have management training and it shows. There is no training for anyone, there are no procedures in any department. Everyone is incompetent in HR except for Angie she knows her stuff. Regardless if you voluntarily leave or are terminated you are escorted out like a prisoner with no dignity.

Dear Employee – I’m glad to hear you appreciate the wide range of benefits offered to our employees. Our benefit plans are designed around the needs of our employees to ensure each employee is prepared for the future. Our leaderships focus is to ensure the right people are in the right position; therefore, it is necessary to make changes from time to time to ensure employees are placed into positions where they can thrive. It is unfortunate you feel as though our CEO is bringing the company down and our CLO has not delivered on his promises. I’m confident both would be willing to speak with you about your concerns and they have demonstrated this by consistently offering to meet with any employee who may have questions/concerns about the direction of the organization. As an organization we understand we are not perfect and are working to implement new training and ensure every manager is equipped to help each of their employee succeed. There have been many training sessions rolled out over the past two years for all employees and our procedures can be found in the employee handbook. If you have questions about where you can find them, I’d be happy to help. It is Smart Financial’s goal to ensure all employees get to come to work and do what they do best every day. Your success is important to us. I encourage you to reach out to any member of leadership to address your concerns and hopefully give you peace of mind that not only do we care about you, we want you to succeed.

Pros

PTO and Smart Financial Center

Cons

There is quite a long list of cons that I could put here, but the main things that you hear across the board from current and former employees is for one- the pay is low The workload is intense given the low pay that SFCU offers employees, the branches are usually quite busy and very understaffed and unequipped to handle the foot traffic the credit union deals with daily The clientele themselves that come in are by and large very demanding and can be rude without warning. And the company culture is toxic. It’s very very cliquey, maybe that isn’t as much of the case at the corporate office, but it is at the branch level. Many of the co workers I deal with every day are lazy, but if you say anything to management about it, it inevitably comes back on you, and you are essentially blacklisted, at least in the eyes of your colleagues. Because of the combination of the subpar office culture, the stressful workload, and the members themselves, I often come into work stressed before the doors even open. And on a personal note, I wouldn’t recommend this job to anyone, I leave every day physically exhausted from the amount of running back and forth that the position requires, but moreover I leave mentally exhausted each day as well. Knowing that I can’t rely on my coworkers for much, and knowing that the members who come in each day are demanding beyond belief, it’s a double whammy that makes me dread coming into work. I’ve seen people literally walk off the teller line and start sobbing after a member who was dissatisfied laid into them, or just by virtue of the workload they were facing with little to no regard for assistance from management or even those at their same level.

Current Employee - I'm very sorry to hear about your extensive concerns with our organization and encourage you to bring these concerns forward to any member of leadership. We understand we can't be the employer of choice for everyone but do take all our employees concerns seriously and work hard to provide an environment that allows our employees to do what they do best. I would like to address your concerns at a high level. Smart Financial compensation structure is competitive in our market and our employees are compensated based on their current role, experience, and performance. I won't deny we set high expectations for our employees and that is because we believe we employ the best candidates who can handle such a workload. Working in the financial industry can be difficult at times and part of that is dealing with upset members. Any time you work in a field that handles something that is so personal to someone, such as their finances, there is a good chance you will encounter such behaviors. Our goal is to build relationships with every member who comes into our branches, so they understand we are here to help and make their experience difficult. With that being said, we will not tolerate inappropriate behaviors from our members or our employees. It is unfortunate you don't have trust in your management team and/or your peers. We consistently offer all employees the opportunity to bring any concerns they have to upper management; however, it doesn't appear you have done so. It's not too late, any member of management would be happy to listen to your concerns. Lastly, we don't want any of our employees to work in an environment where stress rises to the level of being unhealthy or causes our employees to become disengaged. We want our employees to work at Smart Financial because they chose to and not because they have to. If you believe Smart Financial is the right choice for you, I encourage you to reach out to HR or to a member of management as this is not a representation of Smart Financial or our values.
