Pros

They have a cool office?

Cons

Hilariously low salary. Founders will feed you bs every chance they get. Only take a job here if you are desperate. Follow the advice of the other reviews, because where there's smoke there's fire.

Pros

The people were the best reason to be at this job. Everyone was kind and very welcoming from the beginning until the end. Also in the beginning there were perks of free lunches and a stocked kitchen - but the moment the teams started falling short of the huge growth goals, the perks went away. Once dogs were allowed in the office and that was a pro, however when the company moved to a new building there was a whole new list of rules and dogs were no longer allowed, (as well as hard soled shoes).

Cons

They will make you believe, in the beginning that you can help fix the problems that you see, but over time they start to use phrases like “well that isn’t a priority right now” and “that isn’t a good use of your time.” The sad fact is they like the sound of fixing problems (and talking about it), but management spends such little time actually listening to employees about what would make their jobs easier/better, so little gets accomplished to fix the problems. Asking for proper work load and time off is considered against the best interest of the company. One sales person was told the company did not care about her jet lag and that she had to fly overseas the same day as a friends wedding so that she could take off as few days as possible. Again this is an all talk and no action issue, when I was hired it was very clearly sold as unlimited PTO, they’ve since changed it to “flex PTO”. What this really means is you can only have 15-17 days off, but they like the sound of unlimited so they’ll keep calling it that. Also be prepared for 28 weeks of the year which are “blackout dates” and you aren’t allowed to take any of those days off. Those weeks include the entire months of November and December. They expect you to work longer hours than is worth it. You should plan to miss out on dinners and after work fun often as well as work on the weekends. Management will never directly ask you to do this, but they also expect you to do an insane amount of work so in order to get any kind of success here your free time will suffer. During COVID employees were told they would be receiving a 20% pay cut. They were also told there would be no more paid time off regardless of reason. It was later told that the 20% pay cut was actually just the company skipping an entire 2 week paycheck. So in the middle of a pandemic they just didn’t pay people for two weeks. It’s very clear that the company matters a lot more than the people who work there. When I left there was one major reason that helped me choose to leave, and that was my manager. My direct manager was new to managing and it showed. Unfortunately in order to survive there I had to learn how to manage her and her moods and favoritisms. I brought concerns about her management style when I could but sadly it did no good and she was allowed to continue bullying myself and my fellow employees. One thing that could have fixed or at least helped alleviate the problems with my manager would have been any kind of HR. There is literally no place to go when you have an issue with a manager or fellow employee, so people have to just deal with toxic work environments.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts regarding your time with Sock Club. We are sorry you didn't have a great experience during your time here, and we understand that working at Sock Club isn't for everyone. The industry we are in fluctuates constantly and, therefore, requires us to ask our Team to be incredibly nimble - especially during the current global pandemic. Like many businesses affected by COVID, we have had to make some difficult decisions and implement some temporary policies while adjusting to this unprecedented time. These decisions were not made lightly. Related to your comments on Management issues/HR, we are working hard in this area and are looking to implement a more clear and accessible HR option for our Team Members and making sure that there is a safe place for concerns to be heard and addressed. Thank you again for taking the time to leave this review and we wish you all the best in your career.

Pros

-A stepping stone if you are looking to get a role at a bigger company.

Cons

-You will not get out of work at a reasonable hour. -You will not be able to move up since everyone who holds a higher position is friends with the CEO. -You can make bonuses but don't ever think about leaving because if you do, there are clawbacks. Also, the owner is willing to not pay you bonuses based on discretion. He decided to not pay bonuses due to covid-19 and also decreased pay and used the excuse that we were getting stimulus checks. -It is hard to live off of the base salary here because it is extremely low for the industry standard. -Management is extremely fake nice, they will talk about you behind your back. Do not second guess this. -You will feel overwhelmed a lot of the time. -I highly recommend that you don't work here for your sanity or if you would like a work/life balance. -There is no HR here, so if you think you are being treated unfairly, you are completely out of luck.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback regarding your time at Sock Club. We are sorry to hear that your experience was a negative one. We understand that working at Sock Club might not be for everyone. Our industry and being a faced paced growth company require much flexibility and adaptability - even more so during the current global pandemic. Part of our culture is celebrating growth and learning. One of those learning curves has been adjusting our bonus structure and clawback revision. We have made appropriate changes there that we think will be beneficial to our Team. Regarding your comments on management issues and HR, we are adapting there too. We are implementing a more clear accessible HR resource for the team. We want everyone to feel comfortable and safe to share their experiences while at Sock Club so we can address them. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and wish you the best in your career going forward.
