Pros

Good place to gain some job experience as a rookie to carry onwards towards better pastures, if you can survive it. Some of the colleges are really cool people.

Cons

I had high expectations going to work for this company, but my team took itself way too seriously (imagine Imperial fleet in Star Wars with Darth Vader at the helm), daily "standup" meetings that can last up to an hour, because some people love to hear their voice too much (sometimes even more), uptight team lead and by-weekly team meetings where each employee gets a chance to explain (read: justify their existence to the boss) in front of the entire office how they've been doing their best to stay productive. As a new hire I was not made feel welcome by my team. I rather felt like the entire team was constantly judging my every move and if I made a mistake, it was constantly being brought up over and over again by the team lead. I actually had nightmares about it. There was zero sense of playfulness or lightheartedness in the team i was part of. Some (most) of the teammates liked to passingly mention (brag?) during meetings how busy they were over the weekend with this project we are working on. Overtime was definitely not mandatory, but if everyone is doing it and you're the odd one out, it certainly reflects poorly on you by default. Average salary.

Pros

Nice location of the Helsinki office. Development personnel mostly clued-in. Liberal and participatory atmosphere. Choice of hardware, software, and methods. Five-day extra vacation as a signing bonus.

Cons

Liberal attitudes within the company mean, in practice, that instead of screaming his head off at you, the boss will find a slightly different minor thing to complain about. In a nutshell, Solita doesn't represent a point on an axis between a nice, modern, and fun workplace, or a mean, old-fashioned, and angry workplace; but on one between passive-aggressive and military-style management. Therefore the choice is down to individual preference rather than one being a quality-of-life improvement in terms of work-related stress. Participation in topics relevant to the company and its employees (such as commenting on national alterations to employment law, proposals for future union negotiations, and/or wage transparency within the company) is encouraged. However, my experience suggests that views contrary to the employer's interest are sanctioned on a hidden three-strikes mechanism during the trial period. The five-day bonus vacation is only worth its weight in toilet paper if you're fired before it can be used, at earliest some six months after first day in my case.

Great human centric atmosphere but no clear career paths

Pros

Human centricity, benefits, fun and talented colleagues, low hierarchy

Cons

There is no career path after couple of years if you are a quick learner with a drive forward, and company looses those type of people. Also more and more juniors are being recruited since there are not much seniors in the market, and this causes knowledge and experience gaps in projects
