Pros

A family run business, but it has grown, and no longer feels "homey". Chances to travel if you know hot rods or race cars intimately. You get to meet some pretty cool people and sell toys to folks. Pay is good for many of the employees' education level.

Cons

Can be a dead end for certain people. Management is disconnected from the workers. The HR department runs the show, and that's too bad. Bill Smith and his wife are gone now, and the special place they created is evaporating quickly. Good knowledgeable folks are disappearing and being replaced with corporate brain dead robots, reading scripts and saying "yes". Health insurance cost negates a decent salary. Constant turn over from college staff, it gets old old old.

Terrible "family-run" company with frugal pay and abysmal benefits.

Pros

Monday Lunch is provided during busy season. Christmas presents sourced from China and stamped with the company's branding. If you're lazy and lack ingenuity, you'll fit right in here as there are endless opportunities to mimic other more successful companies. They promote this type of "blueprinting".

Cons

They are cheap in every way imaginable. Penny-pinchers in every sense. Your pay rate will be well below industry standards, and in certain circumstances they won't be afraid to let you know it. There is no sick leave. PTO starts at very small rates. After 7 years you'll finally reach a rate to take 2 weeks off... for the entire year. 401k leaves much to be desired. Health insurance is expensive, hardly considered a "benefit". Nepotism is rife here - equality of opportunity doesn't exist. Unqualified internal promotions have led to mismanaged departments and its eating the company from the inside out. There's no system of checks and balances. They continually market the lie that they manufacture parts in the US, when in fact the vast majority of their parts are manufactured in China. They place little to no value on loyalty, the more years you work here - the more you waste. You're lucky if upper management even knows your first name after a decade of working there. There's a certain repulsiveness and distrust they have for anyone working there that isn't family. Heads-up! That's about 99% of their workforce. Another review on here is titled, "A Growing and Evolving Company"... after 67 years in business, do you really think that's something to boast about, let alone true? Don't be fooled... if anything, this speaks to how far behind the curve this company is. Look elsewhere if you're considering advancing your career.

Thank you for your feedback. We take all suggestions, comments, and concerns on Glassdoor seriously, and appreciate your time in posting a review. With that said, Speedway Motors has recently evaluated the time off policy and is excited to announce that we now offer unlimited time off for salary employees! Hourly employees also now start at 3 weeks PTO, maxing out at 5 weeks. Speedway Motors is changing rapidly in so many positive ways. In 2017, we performed a market analysis to ensure we were paying our team competitively and adjusted where necessary. We’ll continue to perform market analyses to stay competitive as we believe our employees are our strongest asset. We strive to take care of our employees in the best way possible, and look forward to what 2019 has to bring for Speedway Motors.

Pros

You get free shirts sometimes There is some pretty cool people that work here

Cons

Management is horrible, non experienced, and non caring about the employees Never know when you'll be off for the day. Management always says that they'll take ideas and feedback for making it a better work place but when you give your input they treat you like you're stupid.
