So many where do I begin!
SSMs (store "support" managers) - biggest joke ever, they couldn't support one team member if that was their only person to look after. Like whatever I saw another review mention, they are so rude and think they are better than everyone below them ... well SSMs you're not! At the end of the day you've got to realise it's these people below you (casuals, asm,sm) that are they ones making making for the company and doing all the hard work. SSMs just go around from store to store with no idea what is really happening in each store as they never care to listen to sm and asm advice and concerns. When it comes to proformance reviews they they degrade you as a person and leave you feeling awful when you worked your hardest for having everything neat and right in shop. You get no thanks or recognition from hard work, you cover everyone's shifts and last minute work which they will happily accept because "YOU CANT CLOSE THE SHOP AT ANY COST" in spendless words due to them more concerned about the shop lease over staff sickness and family commitments. Higher ups though take off whatever day/s they want and hardly ever leave the stores with another person to contact if needed for emergencies.
They encourage staff to take breaks in writing but if you're working a full day on your own and have to close shop to go toilet or eat the SSMs will make you feel awful for it as "your losing money to the company each time you do this", the staff are expected to find a cover for another team member that didn't work and pretty good luck if you don't find anyone the Higher ups laugh and say "you can do you've done it before". This is not a good place to work or stay in for a long time, it will break you into a million pieces then when they know you are broke try to glue you back together with a bit of false hope (they are extremely good at being manipulative to get what they want and know how to play you). Casuals, asms and sms have all had awful experiences with SSMs.
Pay is average. They refuse to pay overtime so don't even bother trying to get that. I encourage anyone thinking of working here (or currently is working here) to take advantage of your days off's and leave. Turn your phone off and don't even a single ounce of care to this company as they don't care about anymore but themselves and even more so money which is sick. "Worlds friendliest shoe people" that should be a red flag right there.
Products: the stock is so cheap and nasty. They have staff do "reticketing" every week which is getting staff to cut off the original price tag and then mark it up higher in price (sometimes from $5 to $10), this is quiet high for a shoe that hasn't change for the better in quality. Shoes don't last long and multiple complaints about that (again higher up don't care, only see money!). For a company called "spendless" they aren't that cheap in cost of shoes. Myself, other team members and even customers have noticed almost identical items in store the same as target and other shops but they sell it almost $20/$30 cheaper in some cases and they have better brands and the look, feel, quality and price is greatly better than what Spendless offers.
