Pros

Good group of people to work with. I have no complaints about my coworkers or boss's they were always great to be around and work with. Diverse projects keep things interesting so you get a broad exposure and experience. Great company to work for if you are willing to stick it out for 5-10 years to make it worth it. Good comradery and they have a great employee party each year.

Cons

Once they put you on salary they will try and get all the free labor they can out of you for the first 5 years. Even if you work a ton of extra hours and surpass your chargability goal, you still aren't compensated fairly and there is no clear way to increase your bonuses. Better company to hire in with after 5-10 years at another company than one to start out with. You'll make more getting paid hourly at $25/hr at another firm than getting paid 70K in salary here assuming you work the same amount of hours. If you don't understand compounding interest, then you probably don't see this as a problem. Supervisors and mentors are never around so it's easy to get pigeon holed and not progress your career. Young engineers get stuck out on inspection jobs where you're working next to hourly guys but you're salaried and expected to work 60-70 hours a week and stay away from home several nights a week.

Thought was a good place to work

Pros

Nice professional place, professional atmosphere, decent/good pay, helpful training, challenging work. Well run place. Potential good career job.

Cons

Supervisor relayed I was doing good via weekly conversations, they told management the opposite. Didn't have a lot of patience when trainee didn't learn fast enough on their time frame. Was not an engineer, rather a technician & felt like was looked downed upon because of that. Additionally, they were notified of doctor appts I had, had complications with hospital procedure which required week long hospital stay. They decided to let me go while I was in the hospital when I couldn't defend myself & their explanation was attendance. Had to garner advice thru a lawyer. Left my previous job of 18 yrs as I thought this job would be my career job. I think it's a good place to work but the way they handled my position was the most unprofessional behavior I've ever encountered. Maybe they've terminated people before & they've just gone away but I thought the legality of my termination (especially while in hosp) was unfair and bordered wrong doing. Turned out via my lawyer that they were wrong. Good job, just bad experience like I've never been thru. Regardless, wish the company well.

Pros

You'll get experience and that's about it.

Cons

I felt as though I was getting used at this company. 3 years at this company and not once did they give me a proper raise. They say your over time will be compensated with your bonus but thats a bold lie. If you have to work at this company DO NOT ACCEPT THE SALARY instead ask for hourly so that you actually get compensated for over time. Management is extremely passive aggressive and you end up learning alone. When I switched to a different company I got a 30% wage increase and I'm hourly. I get to work from home 3 days of the week and the hours are flexible. I should've left earlier cause this new company made me realize that they really don't care about you. It's definitely not because I was a bad worker. I'm thriving at my new company because I have good supervisors and got a great raise without even asking for one. Also there's almost no diversity at Spicer Group. Maybe that's why I got treated the way I did? Not sure but it doesn't make them look good at all.
