Pros

Great clients with good projects.

Cons

Want to succeed here than you better be ready to ignore all the lewd comments that come out of male managements mouths. The lack of professionalism is embarassing in team and client meetings. This place can feel like a frat house, or a bad episode of Mad Men.

Pros

While I no longer work for Spoke, I can still walk in and be greeted with a hug from everyone, every time. There’s a family-like culture that I haven’t experienced anywhere else, and we all know that co-workers make all the difference at a job. It’s important to have a sense of humor, and be able to take a joke. That became pretty clear even during my interview process. Spoke isn’t for everyone. Your attitude is just as important as your work ethic. Personally, I immediately felt at home. It’s a laid back atmosphere where you can laugh and not have take each other so seriously all the time, but when it comes to the work, it’s no joke. This is also the most challenging job I’ve had so far. There’s a lot of work to do. There can be quick turnarounds. There can be overtime. If you’re not prepared to take this on, don’t work at an agency. Everyone is incredibly talented and works very hard. Be able to collaborate, be open to constructive criticism, and keep a desire to further your skill set. The partners and leadership team are very experienced, yet extremely approachable. Best creative direction I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t trade my experience there for anything. Spoke Marketing is the reason I’m a better designer.

Cons

Go in with the aforementioned in mind, and there won’t be any cons.

Pros

There were a lot of great things about working at Spoke. Because it's a fairly small company, hours and policies are flexible, so you can work from home, bring your dog in, or come in late now and then for an appointment as long as you're still logging your 40(+) hours a week. They've got a great group of people, especially on the creative side, and a lot of really good thought goes into many of their projects. As someone new to the field, I was able to learn a lot and regularly get feedback from people with decades more experience than me, which was very valuable to me.

Cons

My biggest complaint about my time at Spoke was the lack of organization and communication about projects, deadlines, and expectations for me. I wasn't told up front that they expected me to be working more than 40 hours a week, and was only told at the end of my time there that that was an expectation. I also think that the lack of organization is a part of the culture at Spoke that potential hires should be aware of, because it was fine for many of the people working there, but wasn't a good fit for me. My other problem with Spoke was that their clients were scattered across many different fields and areas, and I didn't feel that I was able to dig in and focus on any particular project at once, though I think that this could be true of any marketing company, not just Spoke.
