Pros

The honeymoon period- when you start to understand the politics it becomes very clear this charity is not what it seems.

Cons

Bullying culture. Lack of loyalty to hard working dedicated staff. Money wasting. Weak leadership. Lack of local contract management leading to bullying throughout the organisation. Weak regional management.

Pros

The colleagues - the people who really make this organisation function properly.

Cons

It’s a shambles of an organisation! If your face fits, or if you attend the right prayer groups then you’ll go far at Spurgeons. Christianity is the fundamental part of how they believe this organisation is run, which is laughable, and some staff are treated terribly. The values are a well known joke amongst staff as the values are not adhered to at all and most staff don’t even know what the values are! No care is taken for staff who often work late in to the night to try and get their job done. A new CEO was appointed in 2021 who failed to keep a very small charity afloat. After his appointment the long standing senior leadership team all decided to leave which spoke volumes! The work of Spurgeons is drying up. No new contracts being won, and staff turnover continues to be high. Very concerning for the future direction of this organisation.

We welcome feedback and have many channels in place to ensure that colleagues can share this with us. We agree it is our colleagues who are the heart of our organisation and therefore are concerned that you feel you have not experienced our Values during your time at Spurgeons. We have been in a season of change, with a new CEO appointed in January but are confident about our future. We hope you have already taken the opportunity to discuss these concerns with us, but if not, please do reach out direct to our HR team via hrhelpdesk@spurgeons.org so we have the opportunity to address these concerns with you directly. Pros

Lovely people to work alongside with the right intention

Cons

Poor planning for the future, becoming increasingly religious which is a struggle in a modern day where the majority of users are no faith and find the words/website too strong
