Lacking growth and culture

Pros

Some project managers actually care and try to help

Cons

You are nothing but a number to them and it shows with the high turnover. You have weekend plans with your family, well forget about them when the president walks around at 4pm on a Friday telling you they need overtime on the weekend. It’s a shame that happens because it wouldn’t if management actually managed the office, staff, and projects. Makes you feel worse when you are stuck working with the PM’s that they allow to belittle, curse, and yell at you. Go ahead and report it, but nothing happens. You want to see growth, it doesn’t happen. No one supports you at work or your path to licensure. You are basically on your own unless you get the one PM that cares. Even then, they are usually too busy to really help. Most good people leave once they realize how bad the office really is. And remember all that overtime you just worked, well they have some weird formula where it actually pays you less the more you work. There is also no communication which leads to a highly disorganized team with HR and other disciplines within the same office.

Simply The Worst

Pros

- They prefer people with no formal education so they wont have to pay them as much. (For those of you who dont have educations) - Cool projects around the world. - Multi-disciplinary firm with multiple offices

Cons

- They refuse to give you the hours you need to become a licensed architect. - They dont believe in windows, natural day light, or time off. -They have a common practice of emailing you dirty emails complaining about you taking time off or using sick days. - They openly require a ridiculous amount of overtime minimum of 50 + hours a week and weekly reminders as well. The average work week could be anywhere from 50 to 80 hours a week. - Overtime is paid at a rate which lowers by the hour. (Nevada Law allowance) - Have a super low retention rate due to low pay, no work live balance, and an overall bad attitude towards the employees. - Communication in the office is so bad they will actually avoid telling one another when major changes are happening and then yell at interns for telling the other managers. - Lastly lets not forget about the fact that newbies with a masters degree may be making 35k which is extremely low overall in the U.S and are paying school loans while their boss maybe works half of the time each month and has enough cars to fill up a Las Vegas Parking Garage. Each one could easily pay off a student's loans...I suggest a better ratio between worker and work.

A drone in a cave

Pros

The people are fantastic, and some are happy to teach you Flexibility coming into work- but good luck leaving

Cons

You will spend everyday rushing to meet a deadline that will be scrapped in a week to a month. Deadlines create little regard for peoples social life Unrealistic expectations suck the life out of the happiest and greatest employees Most deadlines are laid on you with little to no notice, causing you to drop whatever plans you had after your shift to work late into the night Poor communication on what was happening on the project at the top end. This makes it hard for drafters to design with those changes in mind instead of being stuck in a hole of redlines. It’s a flourescent cave of dispair
