Corrupted system that fails to improve as times change
Pros
Management is kind and it's usually easy to get along with everyone from within. Most of the times you're not working with management and you're generally alone working for a customer at one of their facilities and these customers/contacts are very unpredictable. Unless you're working for corporate or assuming a management position, SQ is best for younger people or folks with less experience that are looking to get their foot in the door. I don't know any other employer that makes it so simple for anyone to walk in and out. Getting promoted upward is as simple as being consistent and doing as you're supposed to. SQ gave me an opportunity when nobody else would and I'll forever appreciate that.
Cons
SQ's culture is extremely rocky. They expect you to be dependable but they are anything but dependable. Our pay is dictated by the time that's being billed to customers on an hourly basis. We work at their facilities and we are only paid based on what the customer will pay for our time. If business is slow then we do not get paid and unfortunately this isn't our fault and we get no support from SQ during such harsh times. Sometimes when this happens we are either asked or told to work someplace significantly far, as in exceeding an hour each way in travel which isn't a reasonable expectation unless the worker is willing. Bottom line is this is not a career oriented place to work at unless you're a project manager or higher. Not even supervisors can depend on the job and their pay is embarrassingly lousy. We do not offer enough to recruit dependable and honest workers. Rather, we receive workers that cut corners, are always lazy and arrive to work late. In order to be successful we must depend on some low-end workers from the bottom of the barrel that no other employer would dare to keep on the payroll. That's how lousy the pay is. The price we're willing to pay for workers worked ages ago but today it's an outdated rate that nobody can possibly live off of. In some states they pull more for taxes than they do in Indiana so in some areas we take home less than what they rake up in the corn state. When business is higher than usual it's difficult for hourly leaders to maintain a separation of business and personal lives while getting compensated properly for it. While off the clock we are expected to be responsive with whatever comes in on the work phone. It's not like we're allowed to clock out and turn off the work phone because it's no longer a business hour. Worst of all, considering how low we are being paid, we generally do not make any money for work related communications during our personal time. SQ should allow us to properly bill ourselves for ALL work, every single minute that we have to invest into the job.
