Pros

On the engineering side there are plenty of opportunities for growth. The culture is very forward thinking and gives developers room to learn. This is done via the culture in the teams, inviting people to challenge the status quo and suggest ideas, knowledge sharing sessions and a £500 learning and development budget. The environment is fast paced, so while it can be intense it is also very rewarding. We work very closely with our end users so everything we build has a purpose and we often receive feedback straight from the users so we as developers can see the fruits of our labour. There aren't many barriers to communication, so it's easy to stay on the same page with the commercial team and other product teams. Weekly All Hands sessions also keep everyone in the loop from all aspects of the business. The salary is also fair and managers on the engineering side are open to negotiation when discussing salary increases. This happened to me literally this week which I was very grateful for.

Cons

It can be intense, particularly if you are on a team building new things and the stakes are high - however I would consider this as less of a con and more a byproduct of the exciting environment we are in. The office is currently being refurbished, so in the short - medium term it can be difficult to organise team days in the office as desk availability is low. This will hopefully resolve itself next year, however! As mentioned in the advice section, it is currently quite loud and distracting in the office if you are the type of person who needs time to settle into deep focus to get work done efficiently.

Hey, thanks so much for your feedback - and honesty! It is great to hear that you have benefitted from our open and transparent culture here at Street Group. It is something we are working hard to maintain and continuously improve. Well done on the salary increase also! We do take on board your comments about the office, we appreciate the refurbishment and lack of quieter areas is frustrating for so many of the team right now. We are confident the office will be ready in early Spring, with many new quieter spaces. We do urge you though to speak to your manager about the current distraction issues you are experiencing due to the business of the office to see what other support we can provide and also consider attending the office on Mondays and Fridays instead when the office is much quieter.

Pros

The company has a very relaxed atmosphere It hires competent developers so you have very helpful team members It is extremely transparent on everything to do with the business

Cons

As it hires mostly senior developers, it is difficult at first to realise where your potential for growth is. However with more experience in the company it's easy to see the different paths you can take.

Pros

-Extremely bright and knowledgeable co-workers. -Nice office. -In Manchester.

Cons

-Heads of the company have major ego issues and are unable or unwilling to take criticism. (This does not apply to the co-founder; from the conversations I've had with them, they have been a pleasure to speak with and genuinely seem to care for the employees and business) Unfortunately, day-to-day interaction with them is rare, and depending on your role, you will mostly be dealing with your team lead or heads of department instead. -Depending on the role you are applying for, there may be a lack of transparency during the hiring process. Some colleagues in other departments interviewed for and were offered specialised roles, but ended up placed in very generic positions, with nothing in the interviews, job offers, or onboarding indicating this would be the case. -Depending on your department (much less so in the engineering department), you may find yourself micromanaged and given arbitrary targets and metrics to hit with little to no context; structured very similarly to a sales centre environment with poorly defined OKRs and vibes. - Younger employees should be cautious; don’t be fooled into thinking this company still offers growth opportunities. Gain experience here, but plan to move on quickly
