Pros

- Very values led, passionate team, dedicated to the cause - Work culture that tries to embody flexibility, good parental leave, ahead of the curve in terms of non-financial benefits - Leadership take on feedback well and protect their staff as much as they can from difficult external stressors - Amazing chance to support young people and mental health - Got to work on interesting projects - WFH and flexible working - Lots of staff have been there a long time which seems like an endorsement of the culture - Appears genuinely committed to anti-racism, EDI, etc.

Cons

- Salaries low but not unusual for the charity sector - HE sector struggling financially which has knock-on implications for the charity - Workforce review and reduction of hours for staff above a certain grade created unease - Don't get much in-person time with the team due to geographic spread and funding constraints - Little room for career progression, minimal movement among middle/senior level roles which makes medium/long-term career growth less probable

Pros

Everyone is really supportive Line managers are conscious of staff wellbeing They really care about their beneficiaries and work to their values

Cons

Sometimes 'too nice' - means it can be hard to reach decisions or take a long time to get things done/ Not enough clear commitment to professional development. This is mentioned every now and then, but not prioritized by managers.
