Most senior staff are not trained as architects. They are good designers but are not accountable to ARB codes of conduct and are not interested in professionalism. No opportunities for career advancement - unless the boss likes you! The boss will like you if you suck up... Any interests in career advancement or training must be brought infront of a 'staff development panel' which will actively try to undermind your position or talk you out of/delay your course of study etc. No study leave or sponsorship offered unless you are a favourite. Never mention anything to HR, it will be used against you and you will be seen as rocking the boat. Low salary compared to architecture practices of a similar size. No benefits. and as soon as you start working late (unpaid) they will see you as willing to take on more work. No pay reviews and job loyalty is not repaid. Some management level staff earning same as assistants after years of employment.
