Pros

They paid you every other week.

Cons

The cons are endless. Toxic work environment, inexperienced management, back-stabbing, and lies. During my time at the company, I watched in awe how the management of the company treated propane sales as if it was a cure for cancer. People are regularly told "if you don't like it then leave". In addition, there are inexplicable terminations of people. Sr. Management doesn't keep mid-level management in line, every department thinks they run the company, and performance is subjective - meaning, if you spend 70+ hours a week sitting at your desk (even if there is nothing going on) - you'll do well. No goals provided, no job description. People are reprimanded and assessed based on hunches, assumptions, and opinions, not facts or measurable metrics. Organizational paralysis is rampant and there is absolutely no training, support, or coaching from management. Management ensures you know you are replaceable. Management also doesn't care what the customer thinks and I've never seen a company with so many documented ways of screwing their clientele. HR is run by lawyers for the sole purpose of making sure employees stay in line and the company isn't sued whey they decide they're done with you. Absolutely despicable company. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Pros

Managers are paid a decent wage. I had an excellent staff that were a pleasure to work with.

Cons

No pay raise in the 3 years I was there. Bonuses can only be achieved by hitting budgeted numbers which were set up by folks that were totally out of touch with the market area Even when on vacation you are required to work. Threatened to withhold pay when I was EXTREMELY sick and was still working 9 hours a day from home. As a salaried employee who worked on average 50-55 hours a week I knew at that moment I was not valued as am employee. Was issued a written warning 1 week before Christmas because in the past several months prior several customers had written complaints to the Attorney General. I addressed each complaint. However was told that it was my responsibility to assure people did not complain. No support from upper management. They definitely didn’t have your back. Region management couldn’t even take the time to make a call to a 40 year employee that retired.

Pros

The job is not too difficult if you can handle fast paced phone calls with some common courtesy and moderate computer skills. They are pretty flexible as regards your shift, what days you can work. Coworkers and management alike are all very nice and for the most part pleasant to work with.

Cons

No benefits, no raises, no advancement. Most positions are filled by temps and they are never fully hired. There are too many managers, too little consistent direction, and the rules and call flow instructions are constantly changed for the worse. People that never take calls themselves will pick apart every aspect of your calls. You will constantly be apologizing to customers for the actions of others in the company. You will constantly file customer complaints that seem to disappear into the void without any sort of follow up. There is a reason they hire 50+ people each season and within a month only have a dozen left. They set the bar very high, which is fine- but they constantly introduce new protocols and procedures that serve little purpose other than to make things more difficult for the CSR. Couple that with setting arbitrary limits on call times and you get a recipe for frustration. The job is very demanding. Each call from beginning to end is supposed to take less than 6 minutes- this includes all data entry and protocols followed. Any personal time is monitored- bathroom breaks, grabbing a drink, etc- they keep track of every second you are not available to take a phone call. It is a shame, when I first started there it wasn't so bad. I have chosen not to go back to Suburban Propane because the fast food place down the street is literally paying more. How absurd!
