Pros

There are no pros, everyone gets worked to the bone.

Cons

Executive management has no idea how the majority of employees feel; the CEO will appoint her friends to executive positions without following proper procedures, and other executives will pressure their employees to post bogus Glassdoor reviews in order to improve the company's dismal Glassdoor scores. The CEOs and the board of directors should be investigated by the government.

Pros

I have nothing positive to say about my experience at SDTC

Cons

If you want to feel silenced, unwelcome and invisible then this is the place for you! A toxic, soulless organization that is completely void of qualified leadership, strategic direction, honest communication and often times, respect. There is a complete absence of life in the office - a tangible feeling of frustration and defeat that hangs over the employees who are undervalued, overworked and misled by management. Although passionate about the mandate of the organization, my experience at SDTC was defeating, belittling and ultimately bewildering that any employee has the mental stamina to endure more than one day in that work environment.

Pros

Cool mandate, ability to work with great entrepreneurs, lean about amazing technologies and diverse markets and make an impact. Some of the executive and leadership are great if you're lucky enough to have the right boss and they can last.

Cons

Cons? The CEO - full stop. She spends all of her time managing up (to the Chair of the Board, who really makes all the strategic decisions) and outwards (to the government, media and stakeholders) in order to craft and promote this fantasy that she's such a great, inspirational and knowledgeable leader that has transformed the agency. However the way she projects and engages internally is completely opposite. She regularly diminishes the accomplishments of the team, uses humiliating and demeaning language and generally exhibits a visceral disdain for those that work for her. The latest article about her in the Globe and Mail couldn't be more wrong ("modest to a fault"); in reality she takes credit for any real accomplishment. Leah has this sad need to be seen as the unlikely hero that rode into town from the west, blasting through Ottawa's "bureaucracy " and saved the day for the cleantech industry. It is all about her, not the environment, not the entrepreneurs.
