Pros
Employees receive excellent flight privileges with parent company WestJet, Flight Attendants just unionized with CUPE, most Flight Attendants and Pilots are great to work with. Flying is really fun, Swoop does not require a second language like most other airlines.
Cons
Company makes you pay for your own uniform. Training is unorganized and stressful with no desire to make it professional or fix huge gaps because saving cost is most important. Flight Attendants work full time with part time pay, they state that we make over $26/hr but we report to the gate in uniform and do briefings, airplane checks, boarding, deplaning, grooming of aircraft, and any delays without pay. Often this results in a 13 hour day without 6 hour pay. The uniforms are uncomfortable, expensive, poorly made and we pay out of pocket for repairs, replacements, and alterations for fit. There is no allowance for shoes, compression stockings, etc. We are often forced to stay in hotels without microwaves of freezers on multi day pairings which results in our food going bad and us spending more money than we make working just feeding ourselves with Skip The Dishes or taking taxis. The leadership has threatened Flight Attendants’ jobs for being too tired to work 17 hours to help with delayed flights. Pilots only have to work 14 hours maximum. We have no schedule bidding for Flight Attendants so on the 25th of each month you are given your schedule and you must work it.
