Run the Other Way! This place is a self-righteous mess.
Pros
First things first, this is a sweatshop for designers. If you want to create top of the line work for clients and really push for the greatest designs you can achieve and be proud of - this place is not for you. They expect you to design a website in 3 hours and logos in 2...which is completely unreasonable and, not to mention, disrespectful to their clients. Rushing creativity at a design agency is the no.1 killer of talent acquisition and retention, and not to mention that the overall quality of work being produced will be adequate at best. But that’s what Syrup wants. They do not give their clients superior, industry-leading design solutions because of this and all they care about is their bottom line: spending the least amount of time possible so that they can proceed to the next task and churn out more work. It's basically run like a factory. Process and efficiency are king at Syrup, not quality and giving their designers the time they need to do the job right. There is absolutely no regard for the creative process and for a creative agency...this is a HUGE problem. At first, Syrup might appear to be like the “unicorn of design agencies” - I admit, I was tricked in the beginning - but this is a sticky sweet facade that quickly vanishes after about week 2 of working there. On another note, as a self-professed Christian/faith-based company - they show the least amount of grace towards new hires that I’ve ever experienced. Yes, I guess it’s nice that they pray every morning as a group and get together on Mondays to sing worship songs (which is a bit much for a workplace, in my opinion, and potentially very awkward for people who aren’t Christian). This is something I initially thought was such a unique, uplifting quality of the company. However, I realize they hire you only if you are Christian...which is, frankly, discriminatory. I was basically asked about my religious beliefs in my final interview before an offer was made.
Cons
See everything mentioned above. Another con to add is most of their team was hired straight out of college and they have no experience from other agencies. Syrup must do this so that they don't get pushback on their ridiculously rigid process structure. They are so close-minded to what a truly creative process should be and only want to produce quick, average work. Don't believe the hype from the other reviews on here...while I was there they often asked their employees to come on here and give 4-5 star reviews. Plus, most people who work there aren't creatives and aren't doing the actual design work. Lastly, they don’t offer any health insurance or a 401k plan. And if you want to take a lunch break, you have to come in an hour early. You will also be micromanaged about everything...the list of cons could really just go on and on.
