West London Audi

Recommend
CEO approval
Business outlook

Pros

- You are given a nice company car, this is usually an almost brand new Audi. Unfortunately, this perk is ruined in favour of the management to pay less tax through an averaging scheme, it means you will pay a huge chunk of your salary on company car tax. In many cases it's actually cheaper to buy a car yourself. - £1000 bonus was issued by Sytner at the end of 2022. But this review is not about Sytner as a whole, only the West London branch. - Good for learning and personal development. The lack of help and training can work in your favour, if you're able to do well here you can go into almost any sales job and excel as it will seem easy in comparison.

Cons

- Extremely long hours and being forced to work 'sales events' in which you have absolutely no excuse to miss working Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Say goodbye to work/life balance. - Being consistently spoken to in a disrespectful and belittling way by almost every 'manager'. You would be treated with more respect in prison. Dodging around their delicate egos is an ongoing battle. - Every year the pay plan gets smaller and smaller. You have to sell more meaningless, rip off products to customers in order to earn a half-decent wage to reflect the hours and effort put into the job. - School-style telling offs from senior management who treat sales execs like they are below them and don't deserve the same respect as them or customers. Taking every opportunity to make you feel insignificant. - Members of staff from other departments, from older generations, acting like whiney toddlers when asked to carry out their job. - Miserable and depressing morning meetings which deflate you for the entire day, resembling the same atmosphere as a murder trial. - Terrible people skills. Very toxic and tense environment. Members of staff who have narcissistic personalities and bully others aren't pulled up on this because they thrive. - Favouritism. On a very high scale. If you aren't trying to be best friends with people you can forget them carrying out their job for you. - Wasting huge amounts of time on cars coming back with issues as they were not properly prepared by the relevant team. The customers blame you, so do the managers. - Staff turnover is huge. The only members of staff who remain in the company for more than 4 years are usually narcissistic, or they have worked there so long they are unable to do anything else. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Pros

The work was good. Base salary.

Cons

The people (including management and co-workers) were really passive-aggressive with their way of working, pushing it like it was proven to be gospel but was tried and tested in their niche. I felt pretty isolated even though I was part of a big team. Everyone knows better than you about your field of expertise, even though theirs lies outside the realm you've made a career of working in. Interactions from co-workers in different teams was non-existent which was ironic considering management "encouraged" cross team interactions. People outside of your immediate team are very guarded and siloed. The benefits were pretty much bottom rung. Don't be lured in by the promise of driving whatever car you want, you'll get the lowest common denominators made available to you. I believe I was a diversity hire to colour out a predominantly white team. Work-life balance was talked about during the interview but in practise you turned up to a daily 9am meeting and work till 5:30pm with a mandatory 1 hour lunch that had to be taken at 1pm (mainly due to meetings). There was an imposed dress code. Even if you're working from home if you're to communicate with people outside of your immediate team. Being part of the EA team was like being a member of a cult where the majority of people worked a certain way and the rest were bullied into working that way and repeatedly told about the merits of it. I was told to bring cakes and food on my last day by a portly colleague. Who couldn't even bother getting me a leaving card.

Pros

Fair pay, and good training programmes.

Cons

Sytner itself has great values which makes this difficult to write as it’s not a reflection of head office and co but managers let them down by not following them. I’ve experienced bullying, sexism and working here is toxic

Pros

The low level people are exceptional. Everyone is friendly and everyone gets along with everyone else. Whilst it is long hours, working 12 hour shifts, the colleagues make this fly by (the 4 on 4 off shift pattern helps as well). The work itself is steady paced and the management make sure to only give you jobs that they know you will be able to do. Overall the people make this place.

Cons

Management especially in the prep areas has took a massive downhill turn recently, mainly due to one manager in particular who will be all friendly and act like your best friend to your face, but the second you turn your back he is calling you names and belittling you to your colleagues. No less than 8 technicians alone have left in the last few months, either because they cannot stand working with him, or because he forced them out because he didn’t like them. And it’s no secret he is the sole reason so many people have already left, and the majority of the ones who remain under his control are seeking employment elsewhere. A big thing for me is that you should be able to trust and respect your managers, but this one in particular has no trust and no respect from any of my colleagues. He has on multiple occasions had things said to him privately in confidence, only for it to somehow get out and for everyone to know what was said. People have tried to complain about him, which seems to go nowhere, but as soon as he finds out who made the complaint that’s it, he is focused on getting you out any way he can, either by using the official channels and giving out written warnings for seemingly no reason, or by bullying to make the person quit if he can’t find even a tiny reason to write them up. A lot of the time he will hand out written warning off his own back without even letting upper management know until after he has already done it. This one person is the only real bad thing about working at carshop right now. Sure, the days are long and can be hard, but these are just nitpicking. If upper management actually read this maybe they will actually start looking properly at why so many people have left already and why so many who remain are unhappy and thinking of leaving - one manager in particular is the root cause.
