Pros

Treats their customers fantastically. Friday afternoon drinks, occasional nibbles, monthly BBQs.

Cons

No amount of nibbles, BBQs, and afternoon drinks makes up for the workload and clique-ness of the job. Pay was accurately described (barely minimum wage, but technically the award rate. It is NOT competitive. If it were, why is it not included as part of your job ads?) in interviews, but the amount and type of work was misrepresented. Super stressful with little support. Has a real name-and-shame culture for mistakes. Problem employees were not retrained or disciplined. Assistant managers and team leaders are very cliquey, and if you're not part of the "cool" club, you're excluded from conversations. Lots of private conversations take place on the floor. Fosters a really negative culture when you can hear leaders whispering and gossiping about you. Needing to leave early or take days off when sick was often met with reluctance and eye-rolling while upper management reminded us that it wasn't life-saving surgery and wasn't urgent enough to stress over. Managers given more flexibility to come in late, leave early, WFH several days a week, etc. Also did a good chunk of overtime that was never made up for. No career progression. You're a CSR until you quit. Only the cool kids in the clique got selected for team leader or assistant manager positions. Lots of the staff are young, and it's often their first job or first full-time job. You will face disciplinary action if you discuss pay. Not like a slap on the wrist but a full-on sit down meeting. Feels like the company takes advantage of young people by paying them less and then banning them from discussing. All CSRs at the company should be paid the same and it should be transparent.

Hi Former TAXIBOXER, Thanks for your honest review. Whilst it’s a reality in any business, hearing of unhappy TAXIBOXERS is painful and something we’d like to address… if required of course. We decided to sit down with each of the managers in the admin team to methodically work the points you raised. As we’ve done with the previous reviews, it helps looking at each point you raised individually. You’ll notice we agree with some of your feedback, whereas others we think is unfair or simply inaccurate. The positive stuff (yep – realise you didn’t see much, but let’s call it out): - You’re spot on that we love treating our customers well, and that’s been the backbone of the TAXIBOX experience around the country. On the other hand, we also understand these customers are going through a stressful time in their lives, and can often let their frustrations out on our team. This can be a real challenge to overcome at times, and we love and appreciate all the amazing our team of TAXIBOXERS do to make the process of moving as easy as possible for our customers. - Nibbles / BBQs / Monthly lunches / Friday drinks / Fridges stacked with drinks / Fruit-bowls / Quarterly events / Employee reward systems / Kudos / Monthly spin-the-wheel-prize / yearly reimbursement for fitness related expenses / WFH / Annual volunteering days for team members etc… Surely this is more than most companies would do?! 😉. OK – we get it, in today’s day and age, it’s almost become expected that we pull-rank and do more than most employers would do in this area. We’re happy to keep doing this. The not-so-positive stuff (who’s kidding… we can see you were particularly unhappy): - Pay: Entry level TAXIBOXERS are paid comfortably above the award, including for all hours worked. In addition, after training is complete, they are eligible to receive a further bonus on-top of their base pay. Is this an issue? Did you find that we miscommunicated our pay in any way/shape/form before you joined? We don’t advertise primarily so we can remain flexible to move on things (upwards) for more experienced candidates that we may have otherwise missed. Is this not reasonable? - Progression: We respectfully disagree. You joined us as in a CSR role and decided shortly thereafter that you did not want to speak to customers on the phone anymore and sought out a marketing role in the business. We did not think you were suited for this role. Everyone of our leaders and managers in the admin team (7 of them) all joined in the same role you did as an entry level CSR. Over their time with us, they’ve proven themselves to be fantastic performers and as such have been promoted numerous times to get them to where they’re at. To say there’s no progression is unreasonable. It’s just that promotions and progressions are based on performance rather than time in the business or expectations to get promoted without delivering. - Workload & Stress: As a starting point, it’s extremely rare for team members in the CSR team to work more than 5 minutes after their shifts and in the event they do, this time is absolutely given back when requested. We aren’t sure why you’re suggesting otherwise? You could/should have had this time given back to you. Stress is a highly subjective and we understand it’s a fast-paced environment at TAXIBOX. Yes – at times it’s busy and we can have more team members on hand, but equally so, this is a delicate balance as the inverse (ie not being busy enough) is equally an issue with the team not having enough to do. - Cliques: Really sorry to hear this. It’s painful to hear that you felt excluded. This is something we continue to work on in the business to ensure we have a workplace that’s as inclusive as possible. The reality is that we’re a small team in our head office and friendships groups are natural in these environments. We appreciate your comment nonetheless and very sorry you found this. We will continue to work on getting more team interaction through events, lunches, activities etc. - Bullying: In over 13 years of running our business, we’ve had 1x bullying claim many years ago which has been resolved and both those TAXIBOXERS still work at the company today. If you found there was bullying taking place, why did you not raise this formally so it could addressed? It’s all too easy to throw these terms around, but if there’s a serious issue, we’d expect to see more issues around this and if someone felt bullied, as leaders in a reputable company, we’d take a formal path to resolve. - Underhanded comments: so sorry to hear you felt this way. This is something that’s been raised with our leaders to ensure that feedback is given directly to a person rather than indirectly. In terms of conversations out in the room, we’ve received feedback in the past that there are a lot of conversations happening in private and that it felt that more could be discussed out in the open. This is an area we continue to try balance. - Leigh: Ha! We agree Leigh certainly is great and special [Hi Leigh – don’t get too big of a head if you ever read this!], but so are many, many others in our TAXIBOX team. And whilst he is a gem, Ben wanted to pass on that he probably would pick his kids and wife as the best thing to have happened in his life. 😉 - Training & Re-training: This is excellent feedback and one we’d agree with. We could be stronger with both discipline, training and accountability generally. This is an area we have driving hard. It’s a balance as we try create a positive work environment, without causing more stress which you raised as an issue. Thank you once again for your comments. Items above that we feel need addressing are a massive priority for us to implement. We equally respect your other views despite disagreeing with them. Hope you’ve found a job that you feel is better suited to you! Kind regards, TAXIBOX Team

Hi Former Employee, Thanks for taking the time to provide your honest feedback. We’ve had just the one Logistics Manager leave in the last year and this departure was on great terms - so we hopped on the phone with this “person X” to understand if we missed something that could have led to this review. Turns out, we really didn’t (our feelings were 110% mutual) and so we aren’t sure as to who has left this review or what the motive is behind it. BUT – we have received the feedback and as we always like to do as a business, will tackle this head on and respond honestly and transparently. For anyone reading this, it’s very important to acknowledge that out of our national (and awesome) team of 5 Logistic Managers, 3 of the team (Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane) have been with us for almost 10 years, and another for 8 years. Heading up a city and state as a TAXIBOX Logistics Manager is a key role in the business and given the level of seniority, there can be some instances of extra time worked. It’s a rare event and whilst it’s neither systematic nor an expectation, it would be returned as time in lieu and extra days are always paid days. Worth noting that salary and hours are thoroughly confirmed up front during the interview and recruitment process, hearing your comments it feels as though this wasn’t effectively communicated in this instance. We’ll 100% take this on board. We’re always looking to improve and will re-evaluate our onboarding process for senior team members moving forward. Wishing you the best mystery reviewer!
