Pros

Remote and diversity is really about it

Cons

A lot fake reviews the owner would constantly ask us to leave good reviews but didn’t actually take steps to take care of their employees. Nightmare of a leadership team. Really just one guy running the chaotic show. They laid off people after telling the entire team they were not going to be laid off. Very very immature owner please be careful

Pros

As a sales leader, you get to learn and talk to potential fashion customers and understand their problems and workflows.

Cons

- The company strategy changes monthly based on the mood of the CEO with no real data backing his decisions. This would've been fine except you are blamed for goals that were missed when you only have days/weeks to react. No one in the US has lasted more than 18 months with the company - You will not be given the right tools to do your job. CEO is a penny pincher, which is fine for startups, but not ok if he constantly questions your decision on why you need certain paid tools that cost less than a few bucks. - You will be micromanaged. The CEO will question your decisions even if he does not have any domain expertise in your field. He must approve your decisions before you move forward

Where to even begin… Don't be fooled by some of the Department Head positive reviews! You can tell by the diction and content they are written by the same person (didn't even care to make it appear less so). But if anything, this is reflective of how the actual company operates: misguided tactics in attempt to achieve misguided goals. Misguided Goals: It all starts at the top, where the CEO has delusional visions of grandeur without truly understanding his product/market fit. CEO would often pitch to the company comparing the platform to Alibaba's manufacturing platform, but nowhere in terms of scale, capabilities, or quality are the 2 comparable. The CEO has this deep rooted idea of his ideal customers and the value the company can provide them, but he doesn't even understand his own product quality well enough to realize his product has no fit in the market he has in mind. Misguided Tactics: Despite having his vision, the CEO is not technical nor know how exactly to get there. As such, he is easily influenced by soundbites, which leads to constantly shifting priorities and lack of continuity in overall business strategy. Lack of technical knowledge also leads to various decisions based on guesses/faulty pre-conceived notions. For example, during weeks of down revenue, the CEO would immediately assume it was because of changes made on the platform and demand all changes be reversed when in reality they are completely unrelated (again lack of understanding of his own product). To achieve certain KPIs/goals, the CEO will demand departments to come up with plans, but will reject them if he disagrees without providing good rationale or his own alternatives (because he himself doesn't fully understand the nuisances of different departments)

Thank you for your honest feedback on my performance as the CEO. I apologize that you did not have a great experience at The/Studio. You're absolutely right that we have a long way to go before we before we're Alibaba. But I'm firm in my belief that The/Studio can solve the manufacturing problem better than they are. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and what the team have accomplished at The/Studio. With no funding and through sheer effort the company reached 8 digits in revenue, setting up offices in China, Philippines, Romania and the United States. We employ almost 200 people globally, and indirectly employ at least another 200 people. There have been hundreds of millions of dollars raised by companies trying to create a better Alibaba and solve the first mile manufacturing problem, and literally everyone has failed. I believe this is in the top 1% of difficult problems trying to be solved in Silicon Valley today and there are no easy answers. People like to talk about businesses that can change the world — The/Studio’s business can, and that is always challenging. The result is that a great deal of experimentation is involved in trying to find product market fit, and that's a narrative you'll find at the beginning of every company we now recognize as leaders in their space. The/Studio has never strayed far from profitability and we bootstrapped ourselves most of the way, which means we have been measurably more successful than almost all companies in the space, even the ones who've raised more money than ours. And I believe our team is the one that can finally crack this problem. As the CEO, I always welcome feedback from employees. While I'm saddened to read it here, criticism is something I always try to find value in and I would welcome more insight from the writer if they'd care to email me. Whether they do or not, I wish them the best of luck. - Joseph Heller
