Sinking Ship

Pros

- Excelled learning experience. - Phenomenal product. - Working side by side with exceptional people (for the most part).

Cons

- Always feeling like you are in a sinking ship, where if one hole patches, another 3 are made. - It will be made very clear to you that you will not be valued, no matter what you do for the company or for how long; therefore no one is actually motivated or happy working there. - Non-sanitary work environment.

Pros

- Amazing colleagues who are hungry to grow and pull together - If you're a self-starter and motivated, you can tackle anything you want - Unlimited PTO is very nice if you can manage your projects well - Growing name recognition within Bay Area helps get foot in door

Cons

- Limited resources make it difficult for company to compete with bigger brands and companies in the Bay Area - Inexperienced leadership often runs up against own limitations, particularly with regard to soft skills, company culture, project management, and general communication - Very little room for legitimate career development outside of topics you take personal interest in and develop for yourself - Don't expect leadership to have a career development roadmap for you; they will give you more responsibility/things to do but lack foresight into what your next title will be, or how to get you to your own goals

Pros

Amazing co-workers (minus upper management and leadership) and amazing product

Cons

Leadership doesn't communicate and does not value their employees at all. Successes are not celebrated and there are no annual bonuses. No 401k and no perks other than mediocre health coverage. There is no HR department and HR is VERY MUCH NEEDED as there are a lot of problems that need an objective party's ear. Upper management is vindictive and petty and constantly looking for failures without offering any solutions. No training and not enough staff to cover all the day-to-day tasks. Office space is cramped in a basement that is dark, dirty, and has rats. Everything is a RUSH and product suffers as a result. Employees are overworked, underpaid, and overall pretty unhappy, yet no one steps up and does anything about it. Those that do step up and speak up to leadership are reprimanded and retaliation is unfortunately part of company culture.
