Pros

The team of analysts were a smart, dedicated group and the supervisors worked to keep a positive morale among their immediate reports. Plus, it's hard to be better informed about the world than when your job is to monitor news and emerging threats every day.

Cons

The 12 hour shifts and frequent changes from days to nights and back again made having a healthy work-life balance nearly impossible. In addition, there was no sense that the majority of management cared much about their analysts. When a group of analysts left, they opted to increase every one else's share of shifts rather than replace them. It saved the company money but caused staff to bear the burden of working more holidays and having less time to adjust between switching from days to nights and vice versa. They also had unrealistic expectations for perfection of analysts working 12 hours even though they themselves quoted research stating that levels of productivity tank after 8 hours of work. This is the type of place that will burn you out fast.

TechOp is very transparent about the stresses of providing a 24/7 Media Monitoring Capability to our customers. During the interview process, the shift work schedule is discussed in detail with every candidate so that they can take that into consideration should they receive an offer of employment from us. Our PTO benefits, combined with the flexible nature of the shift schedule, are things that TechOp leverages in order to protect the work/life balance of our Associates while also providing the critical services our customers expect from us. TechOp's HR and Recruiting team maintain a healthy pipeline of interested candidates to prevent any prolonged stresses on the core team schedules in the event of an illness, a departure, or an internal promotion. Additionally, TechOp ensures that all of our cleared Associates are also prepped as back-ups for our smaller teams that are more susceptible to schedule disruptions. It is TechOp's #1 priority to advocate for our Associates in all things, especially those that are supporting our critical media monitoring services.

Pros

This is an ok job for 6 months, and the work can be very interesting. Most analysts are nice. The skills gained are valuable. Any pros of the job are in spite of management, not because of it.

Cons

The hours are hard. The "raises" for promotions are practically nothing, and the company does nothing to help employees advance or grow. Management is incompetent at best and spends way too much time micro-managing. HR is a total joke and basically non existent (get ready to figure out your own tax paperwork, never get raises on time, and never have any of your concerns dealt with). The company also regularly posts fake reviews online. Health insurance is also pretty bad.

That is why TechOp leadership, especially HR, makes it their mission to provide the resources our Associates need to be successful. Further, all exiting employees are given an exit interview that is fully taken into account when TechOp leadership evaluates how we do business, as well as how we can better advocate for our employees' needs.

Pros

-The flexibility to work from home during COVID is nice -No expectation to work more than 8 hours a day, which is rare for government contracting companies. -Just started doing 401K which is good

Cons

-The benefits could be better, but they aren't horrible. -If you aren't part of the CEO/founders' immediate families, then you won't be in senior leadership. It is clear that the 'higher ups' are in their positions due to the family relation - HR is slow to respond to employees and sometimes it feels like pulling teeth with them. They seem nice, but just be aware of what you are stepping into in case you have any issues with your co-worker or supervisor. -You have to fight for your advancement, because if you don't, they will let you sit there. -There is a reason that people don't stay at this company for very long
