High Turnover, Poor Leadership, Demoralizing Environment

Pros

- Everyone uses Macbooks - Leaders are smart and great salesmen - Small staff - Nice building - Lots of young employees - for most, this is their first job out of college

Cons

- The turnover rate is very high. People quit and are fired a lot - Employees get little in the way of mentorship - Leadership is condescending toward and mistrusting of employees - The company direction is unclear and not driven by a purpose - They say it on their website. They got into SEO by hiring people to teach them about it because they thought it would make them money, rather than out of a passion to contribute something to the industry

Thank you for posting this, and I would love to hear more. I think I know who posted this, and if so, I believe you have my direct contact information (Jack Ogilvie, if not, please email me at jack.ogilvie@techwoodconsulting.com and I'd be glad to provide it). I'm not sure that I agree with the accuracy of everything that was said here, though I do understand that my perspective may come from a different place. I will say we are definitely passionate about search! And we do of course run the business in a way to ensure it is profitable (important to work at a financially stable firm, especially if the firm is growing and adding team members / growing payroll, etc). I love the feedback regarding purpose and messaging, and I think we should post a bit more detail on this on our website (our mission statement, core values, etc). Great feedback, and thank you for the recommendation. We'll be sure to incorporate this into the next website iteration.

I worked at Techwood Consulting for two years, and it's a place to really grow yourself professionally. It's a small, tight-knit team and true start-up environment. The managers are willing to give you lots of responsibility and opportunities to try new methods and experiments — they even allowed me to completely shift into a new, self-created role based on my specific experience and passions. The skills gained at Techwood are wide-ranging: professional communication skills from corresponding with clients, valuable online SEO implementation skills, analytical software skills, and more. And, the leaders were always willing to consider training sessions and workshops on new methods or softwares to ensure all employees' skills were current and up to date. Overall, I had a very positive experience during my time here, and would recommend it to any hard workers looking for a challenging yet rewarding experience in a digital start-up environment.

Cons

As in many start-up environments and small teams, a lot is expected of you, which is overwhelming at times — but the managers are always willing to listen if there are issues and are willing to let you try new methods that work better for your specific working style.
