Pros

Beyond a survival income I can think of none.

Cons

The TDT has little concern for producing a newspaper that informs its readers of significant community events or issues. It pays beginning journalist barely enough to survive on canned soup and crackers and its benefits package is totally inadequate and outdated Pay raises don't come close to matching inflation rates and generally simply are not available. If you want better working conditions or more compensation or benefits management is happy to have you move on..

Perfect example of how newspapers fail

Pros

There were people on the editorial staff who made the job enjoyable. Most of those people have left. The hours are somewhat flexible, meaning most people can work the 10-7 instead of 8-5. The office is located downtown near some bars and restaurants, which is nice.

Cons

The pay is terrible for pretty much everyone despite the fact that the paper uses a paywall online. Overtime is disallowed or restricted. Raises are not-existent and you will have to work most holidays. There is no opportunity to innovate because of a lack of resources and talent. The leadership seems to have no idea how the paper is going to remain profitable in the future.

Management is very nice and is willing to train those new to the field.

Cons

Low wages has meant that there are many positions that remain open.
